Adam Johnson Trial Verdict

Safeguards are strictly outlined by the police. He can sign autographs if he is supervised, which he would be, at a match. The incident with the lass was outside of the workplace, and he was alone, which is a different scenario. The papers are just carefully omitting this in order to slag off the club even more.

The grooming of the girl started with shirt signings outside the stadium infront of lots of witnesses. He then spoke with her via social media where he arranged to meet her for a thankyou kiss.....The idea he was allowed to sign childrens autographs after that is beyond belief.

Employers can…
  • suspend an employee if they refuse to refrain from work and the employer believes the employee’s presence in work will jeopardise the employer’s reputation the health and safety of the individual and/or their colleagues or the employer’s investigation. In circumstances where the employee cannot work (for example, if they are held in police custody), suspension is also a viable option.
  • dismiss an employee after conviction and when imprisonment means they are unable to work.
  • dismiss an employee when an internal investigation finds that they have brought the employer into disrepute or where there is a breach of trust and confidence.
Looks like they could have suspended him to me then. There is also the other alternative of just not picking him for matchplay squads.

They have answered them in their statement. Like Mackem00 says why do they have to answer to accusations from a sex offender and proven liar ? It's people buying into media hype that's caused all this. When I read the statement my 1st thought was 'nice one safc. Then I logged onto here and there was hell on.

They really do have questions to answer cause this is not going away till they do......If they choose not to answer the questions, particularly from the echo etc then people will make their own minds up.

Part of the issue to be fair is he met her at work.

The rest of the country have already made their minds up about SAFC. Sacking individuals will not change that, either.

I don't think they have answered

Legally they have nothing to answer for. But given how many fans of the club want answers, they should answer.

I've made my own mind up already. Safc done everything legally and above board then sacked the sex offender the day he plead guilty. They and us were lied to by a piece of garbage who's rightfully going to jail. Now my immediate plans are to get behind the team and cheer them on to survival.

Just found this on the internet, if it still relevant it might offer some explanation of the Club's actions and highlight what advice they received from their Independent Legal Advisors and PFA,

Employee investigations: know your rights

Employers cannot…
  • dismiss an employee automatically if they are suspected of a crime or wrongdoing – they can only take this course of action where the nature of the crime or wrongdoing is relevant to that person’s employment and where an employee is found guilty
  • suspend an employee automatically if they are suspected of a crime or wrongdoing – employers should first seek alternatives (such as moving them into a different job or department). Where alternatives are not possible, employers should ideally seek agreement from the employee to refrain from work while an investigation is under way.
  • rely on the police investigation – employers are required to carry out their own investigation into a crime or wrongdoing wherever feasible.

That might shut a few of the barrack room lawyers up!

I never realised we had so many supporters in Tunbridge Wells!

;)

They've released a statement which said they took legal advice and it was their understanding he was going to plead not guilty, as soon as he plead guilty he was dismissed. How this situation has turned on safc and Johnson barely gets a mention anymore is a complete joke.

MB : "So, Adam ; what's this all about"
AJ : " I just sent this girl a few texts then we kissed"
MB : "so that's sexual activity with a child and grooming."
AJ : "well, I'm going to plead not guilty"
MB : "great. Wear that red and shirt with pride"

He signed shirts for lots of children outside of the stadium, along with all the other players. It was her who contacted him first, and he wasn't the only player she texted. This is not normal behaviour, which ever way you want to look at it. Why would the club expect that every child is going to chase after the players, just because they got an autograph? They'd have to ban all autographs, or contacts with all minors if that was the case.

Only with players who have already been arrested and charged with grooming children they met through work at SAFC...

Yes I can imagine that's exactly how it went.

Yep, that is why is pointless speculating and slagging Club off without knowing the full circumstances.

No issue with the team, got a serious issue with the way the club looks like it has dealt with this issue. Whether he told them he was going to plead not guilty or not is irrelevant as everything I have read suggests they knew he had admitted kissing her in interview. They did not deny this in their statement just that they thought he was going to plead not guilty....That makes it worse imho as they were aware that not only had he kissed the girl but that he intended to lie about it and plead not guilty too.

If Margaret Byrne handed the documents over immediately without taking the time to read their content (and I don't think for one moment she did) why would you think she would do that?

Does anyone know what documents they wereor is that more speculation?

If a brief, or his client under his instruction, offered me private dcumentation under similar circumstances I'd hand them straight back anarl. My first thought would be what's the sneaky bugger attempting to set up here.

Really? Do you have a recording? Have you submitted it?

That clears it all up.
