Adam Johnson Trial Verdict

I suspect that if the Club have known and let him play regardless, then a lot of supporters will feel like there is something they can do - be that voice their concerns or even stop going to games. This is something that a lot of people will (understandably) feel strongly about.
Fair enough. I don't feel as strongly as that but not saying they're wrong.

Poor lass must have been through hell, very brave of her to prosecute.

Hope the former middlesbrough player and boyhood Newcastle fan drops the soap on his first shower vist.

That evil thunderc*** has caused massive damage to our club, last few years have been stained for me.

Aye, just how i feel at the moment, I hope the club can move on and stay in the premier league, if not it's going to be a very long summer.

Because the Club played him in games.
I agree, they might not have been able to sack him (not sure?) but they didn't have to play him.
The victim mentioned this in court and in her statement. By playing him it appears to fans that the club believe him to be not guilty. If it turns out they knew that was not the case then I'd expect people to resign over this. The statement fails to address how much or hopefully how little, the club knew.

If they didn't know, then great. No problem.
If they did know, and played him anyway, then I think they should be ashamed.

Which is fair comment mate. The way I see it, Club were in between a rock and a hard place. If they didnt play him, could the player do the club as it defamed his character and made him look guilty?

Doesn't surprise me. As I said in a previous (deleted) thread, he was going round the dressing room basically admitting what he'd done (not sure if admitting to "just" kissing or other things) and making a joke of it, saying he'd get away with it etc. Don't know if it was just a defence mechanism, if he's thick as fuck or has something wrong with his brain.

In a strange sort of way, I felt sorry for him. Thought to myself he made a daft mistake and was probably feeling very scared and regretful. But the more I read about him this week his arrogance is breathtaking

Any business person with half a brain would have terminated his contract with immediate effect based on that information.
Agree but Sunderland are in a no win situation here (aren't they always) they only way they could have sacked him would have been to admit that he had told them he was guilty, I assume the meeting with his QC would have had some kind of confidentiality clause covering it. If he was just suspended doubtless the PFA would be involved and we would still have shelled out mega bucks for his salary

Should have suspended with pay...

It's obviously different if it was one of mine, because I'd be emotionally involved, probably wouldn't be able to look at the facts with a clear head and would want to kill him. But as someone looking on from afar, I don't have sympathy for the bloke as such, I just think the lass should be held accountable for what she has done.

You must be on a wind up, or thick as a castle wall.

Yes but sometimes that is what happens - the employer loses out - it's a tough fact of life but exactly what would happen in many professions.

As well as a police officer under oath, I believe?
The police officer said the police had not shared any information about the interviews with the club. He said they had gone to the club the day he was arrested and given them an indication of the, then alleged offences so they could implement any safeguarding requirements.

Sunderland say they would have sacked Adam Johnson immediately had they known he was going to admit to child sex offences.
