Read this morning that a warning may be written into laws. Also, sin binnings and sendings off being trialled

Class, at what level can officiate if you go through the levels? If that makes sense.

I think they had a trial, not sure what league, of red and yellow cards but was ultimately unsuccessful.

You need to do 6-10 games this summer to get onto the 1A course next winter, NEDCL, NTSL and DCL umpire secretaries are looking to appoint new umpires from the Level 1. I think you need the 1A at least to get to the NEPL but not looking that far yet, sticking with the NEDCL Div 2 and cup games myself until I get more experience.

As I said, really interesting course but I hope I don't get any of the types of scenarios they go through on the course, runners, two runners, whose ground is it when you have 1, or 2.

I'm umpiring in the Leinster Leagues over here RoS and thought exactly the same about the scenarios, but had three or four games last year with runners and as long as you keep your head and don't do anything stupid you'll be surprised how well you cope.

aye, I guess its down to experience and as long as you remember the injured strikers ground is always his then you should be okay I reckon. Have you umpired with two runners? Whats the most difficult aspect do you think, not just the runners?

Umpired one ball with two runners...... the batsman was bowled on first ball when both had runners. On most of our grounds we wouldn't have a large square so we've had to use either additional painted lines or on one occasion rugby tees when a runner came out.
Haven't really experienced anything "difficult", as long as you impose yourself on the two skippers before the match and advise them that no over appealing or indiscipline will be accepted I've found most games going well.

During the last test at the Riverside, during the lunch interval, there was a screen with various umpire decisions to be made.

A local umpire bloke was in charge, I had a go, got ten out of ten decisions correct and he could not believe I had never been an umpire before.

It's no real surprise that there's a shortage of umpires given the way some current players go on with their behaviour from what I witness at various games during the season. If this continues before long we'll see more games than not just having one umpire and an awful lot more games with no neutral umpires at all as I can't imagine umpires enjoy having to officiate at both ends for the majority of the season.

There are worse ways of spending Saturday afternoon fella, sound like a ready made umpire.
