absolutely vital you remind people of this as it is what they will attack you most easily with because it is a huge overreaction.More about what he represents.
He's on shitloads, and despite being clearly decent three managers have no idea how to fit him into our side. His introduced actually forced one manager to completely overhaul his tactics and gameplan, which saw him sacked.
He's been a mare. Probably a poor/unrepresentative thread title from me, tbf
Why did your stats stop in 12/13?

Maybe some strikers make it to 31?
"A genuinely catastrophically awful signing"Controversial view, but his signing has been a disaster.
Not so much as a player: despite being four years past his (pretty average) best, he's still our best goalscorer and an alright player.
But he turned Poyet's grinding, but solid, team into a complete shambles as Gus fannied about trying to find a way to accommodate him in the side. Convinced if he hadn't signed, we would have ground out a dull survival, Poyet would still be manager and we'd be moving on with a actual philosophy and at least trying to play good football.
Even after Poyet, Advocaat was at a complete loss how to us him, and now Allardyce his.
He's on unspeakable wages, until he's about 63, and three managers in a row have basically admitted there's no way to fit him into our side.
A genuinely, catastrophically awful signing, which we didn't need and didn't fit, which is the biggest shambles of the whole Congerton era of awfulness.
Apart from that, nowt, a useless waste of spaceDoes fuck all really, well except score goals and single handedly get us points from nowhere.
have you vanished? @Morny still think defoes shite? The funniest thing is: if the lad had just turned around at any time during the last year or so and said, "F*cking hell, I've had an absolute mare, haven't I?" we'd have took the p*ss for another day and then left him alone. It's the fact that he's still adamant that he's right when even Blindy McBlind from Blind Lane, Blindsville can see that Defoe is probably a slightly better option than Josy.![]()
Do you still think he's the poorest signing in recent times?
"Hoofwanking bunglecunt"Here's an argument. In 2016, only Sergio Aguero has scored more goals than Defoe. In the entire league. And we're second bottom of said league.
If this thread hasn't been one massive trolling session then you sir are the biggest hoofwanking bunglecunt that ever posted on t'internet. Which given the competition is some going.
Stop apologising to these arseholes. They are only experts in hindsight and even then just because he's popped up with a goal doesn't mean they are right or you are wrong. If Defoe had left in the window they one thing you could guarantee about this place is the same half wits would be calling him worse than shite.
I don't think that no. As I've said repeatedly, the original thread title was over the top and silly. I've said that from very early on in this thread, maybes even from the first couple of days I posted it. He's not the poorest signing, my argument was never about his ability as a player it was always about the fact that we signed him without a plan, without anyway to fit him into our side and seemingly only because it allowed us to get rid of Jozy (which whilst good, should not be the reason for signing a player).
Recently, he's done decent on his own up front, certainly better than I expected. Being honest, I still think we'd be a better side with a player better suited to that role (he simply doesn't naturally suit that role, especially in an Allardyce team) HOWEVER he's done a very decent job in the role and proven himself a very valuable member of the team. Allardyce has found as way of utilising his skills and making him pretty effective. Therefore, I'll concede I was wrong (so feel free to rip the piss further).
Just for some further enlightening on the post you replied to; it was a gripe that, after the Spurs game I posted a VERY obviously tongue-in-cheek comment about him not scoring, and even conceded that he'd played well. I was met with abuse and told to keep my mouth shut, and then silence on the thread for a number of weeks. So I found it a bit odd that when he did score, everyone was racing to bump it again.

If it was just a goal, you'd have a point. 10 league goals so far this season in a shit team says he's been an excellent signing.Stop apologising to these arseholes. .
Like who and where from? Every single player we've had during his time here or whom we could sign would be hamstrung one way or another playing the role, so why has Defoe been the one to have suffered when he's the most productive?
Allardyce has simply played him up front mate, instead of thinking he had to play two up all the time or that he had to accomodate him wide.
I don't know who, my knowledge of players across the leagues ain't great. But there's plenty of strikers (not Fletcher or Graham) specialise in a lone striker role, would make us a better side than we are with Defoe leading the line. I don't think that's an unreasonable thing to say. We don't have one, but they do exist out there and I'd be very surprised if Allardyce doesn't try to bring one in in the summer.
In the meantime, Defoe is doing a fine job of leading the line for us. I struggle to see what is at all controversial about that view. At least I can understand why my original one was completely controversial![]()
