Found this article by Louise Taylor while reporting on the 0-0 v Leicester at the SOL last season. Quite an interesting perspective on the man's qualities as someone capable of galvanising team spirit at a club. Have a read before you dismiss the fella as a nob based purely on his sometimes abrasive public face....

Blinded by blizzards of statistics, deluged in seas of digitalised performance analysis data and sidetracked by Moneyball theories, it is all too easy for modern managers to overlook the human factor.

Fortunately for , Nigel Pearson believes nothing is more important than making time to talk to players, learn about their lives and establish relationships.

Kasper Schmeichel believes the manager’s ability to connect represents a big reason why, against all odds, Leicester secured survival on a blustery Wearside afternoon.

“Nigel Pearson cares,” said the goalkeeper. “He cares deeply not just about football but about his players on and off the pitch. How their lives are going. It means a lot to players when you have a manager who cares so deeply about you as an individual, not just as a player.”

In return Leciester’s squad leapt through metaphorical hoops of flame for Pearson as they collected 19 points from their final eight games of the season. “The boss has been immense; he’s the best manager I’ve played under,” Schmeichel said. “Everyone has got to know that the Nigel Pearson they see and the we see are two very different people. He’s a charismatic guy, a born leader.

“He has a great sense of humour and an energy that transmits to the lads. His enthusiasm for football is infectious. I think he’s the manager of the year. I know I’m happy to have him as my boss.”

Did he suddenly find this ability to connect with only 8 games to go?? Just wondering why they were in such a position if the players were prepared to jump 'through metaphorical hoops of flame for Pearson'

One player says that. There'll be others who aren't quote who think otherwise as well. I've seen enough of him in his press conferences and his treatment of journalists to make my own mind up, he's a bully.

I've also seen journos use any opportunity they can to get a manager to say something newsworthy and controversial. Some of the twats deserve to be publicly humiliated. The "Ostrich rant" was f***ing brilliant....

You didn't read the article, did you?

Pity he didn't find out what his son and team mates were up to. He might still have a job.

And why did it take 7 months of the season for the players to be galvanised into playing for him? Luckily stumbled onto a winning formation/team? We've seen more than a couple of Managers do that over the years.

Unconvinced from Hampshire.

If he's such a good manager how come Leicester were so shit for the majority of last season?

I don't want him here. He's a prick and a bully

Can't say I'd be jumping for joy at his appointment but maybe is the type of character we need?
I put him in the same 'old school' bracket of managers like BSA & Reid.

Another who couldn't be bothered to click on the link and actually find the answer to the question he's posing......your mind is obviously made up mate.

And another.....

Spent 3 quarters of the season getting battered every week. Signed Huth and played 5 at the back and got a few wins to stay up. See PDC, Poyet and Advacaat who have basically all done the same thing. Was sacked twice by Leicester. Leicester look twice the side since he left

Throw in the fact he is a complete bellend and seems to have severe mental problems I wouldn't want him anywhere near our club

Have you got evidence of these "batterings" they took for three quarters of the season?
