PISTON

Striker
How much would he be worth in the current market? Take the timeline comparison to be from when he left Blackburn after winning the league.
Would he remain in the Premier League, which he seemed well suited to, or this time around is there a possibility he'd go to a top price overseas?

English 'style' center forward? Scores goals, had a turn of pace back then...
Wouldn't be amazed to see the fat end of £60-80m for a young player like that, no doubt to Barca or Real.

How much did Newcastle sign him for? I'd say he'd be worth £60mil in this day and age though

60-85m if in early 20s
That puts him in Bale money which kind of means overseas.
Do you think his playing style would get top bids from Madrid, Barcelona etc etc or do you think a British club would go as high as £85million?

United city or maybe Chelsea would

He couldn't hack it in the modern game. It's came on leaps and bounds since he played. He wouldn't be able to keep up and he would struggle top operate as the lone striker. To conclude, Barnsley would be more his level these days.

British players are always going to go for a premium now so yes I'd say that one of the Manchester clubs or Chelsea would go up to 85m - he'd guarantee you at least 20 goals per season

:).Great stuff but i think he'd even get us out of the bottom 4 for a week or two every season!!

So why would a foreign club pay £85 million for Bale and not Shearer? Given the choice for Sunderland i'd have Shearer(obviously as a player only, with no B&W baggage).

He would still score shit loads of goals, no matter what.

The modern game has come on leaps and bounds, strength and conditioning wise, in line with improvements in coaching and nutrition. Alan Shearer would benefit from that as much as every other young player today.

I honestly think he'd do very well.

Edit: I often wonder what Thierry Henry in his prime would be worth these days. f***ing loads imo.

goal scorers are a breed apart. Yes the game has changed but that instinct to be in the right place at the right time and hit the ball sweetly and quickly would work in all different ears. While defenders and goalies and midfield players might find it hard to adjust I'd say players such as Clough, Greaves, Law, Muller and yes Shearer would still be dominant if they played today
