Wijnaldum

He is 1 of the best in the Dutch league, his playmaking skills is very good with him picking out passes with around 85% accuracy and can also chip in with a few goals. Yes he hasn't played in the Prem but given his calibre he would transition quite well to how we play in this league but only time will take and the gamble will pay off for Newcastle if they do end up signing him. Of course, nobody on here is going to like him going to Newcastle considering the beginning of this thread everyone was salivating at him coming here, they'd be lying if they said otherwise. We will know where we stand in a few weeks time with what quality we have but we need a decent playmaker with vision.
Haha, so you haven't seen him play.

He's away with his club yet this thread rumbles on and on. A player, less than 10% (including me) of the contributors had even heard of and even less than that would have been able to offer a decent view of him.

It is packed with experts now claiming it to be the end of the world that we are not in for him.

Mental.

Have the Mags been done yet for an illegal approach? Havent read all pages but to me if a fee has not been agreed with clubs but advanced negotiations with the player, is that not tapping?
I think it's more less done all the time now. We have allegedly agreed terms with lombaerts. Just haven't agreed a fee

So in summary, 70+ pages on a player we have no interest in, because one of the Mags official propaganda rags has created a false link to us so they can churn out the old payed for his flight nonsense and boost their own self-esteem.

Yep, thought so.
Christ, I assumed something further had happened since that original article, but couldn't be bothered to read all the way through. Has it really been on the front page all this time because of that (probably fake) link?

I said straight away we wouldn't be in. It's not the type of signing we make. This whole thread it's just nonsense really

Yes. Also it's defied many attempts to supplant or remove it.
Having read every painful post and added a few, I thought it was now about a German lens called Ernst Leitz from Wezlar.

I don't think Ashley will sanction a deal with one player for £15 million, they are in a similar situation to us in that we need to buy 3-4 first teamers and £15m will be a large chunk of that budget. Our approach as far as I know was tentative and once we knew the starting price we moved on.

If he does go there then they have a decent player and yes it will be a shame we didn't take it further but I just can't see us spending anywhere near that on one player. If we can get Lombaerts and Lens for that combined then the board will see this as a much better deal and we can then look to another midfield target with whatever budget they have. We obviously have a figure and 4-5 slots to fill. If/when we get these two over the line I think we will see further bids for some quality midfielders, hopefully somebody like Clasie or if not I can see us trying for Van Ginkel to fill that position and save the money for now.

Matthews - 2m
Coates - 2m
Lens - 9m
Lombaerts - 6m
Clasie - 8m

That's 27m on 5 players, 3 of which will be guaranteed starters. We can then look to bring in a couple of loans to fill the gaps.

Absolutely MASSIVE signing for Newcastle if it comes off, fair play to them. With the right manager they could be quite a force in this league. I don't know whether that man is McClaren mind.

I hope we're negotiating deals for players of this similar quality behind the scenes (Hopefully we get Lens)

Wijnaldum is a massive signing, and we'd both love him at Sunderland.

With a team including Perez, De Jong, Cabella, Janmaat, Wijnaldum and Sissoko, Cisse(?) they could be a force.
:lol: Couldnt make this shit up. haha

Pretty much agree with you like. Doesn't strike me as something we would pursue - breaking a transfer record.

I'm a fairly new poster. Can someone explain to me what the OP gets out of this: I notice that whenever this thread is in danger of dropping off the front page Travis posts yet more balderdash. Why does he do this?
A perfectly normal post, you mean?

Our 'preferred media partners' are the ones that are pushing this story the most. Of course there isn't a vested interest there though...

Its exceptionally poor, if true. I guess they are all feeding from the same bloated trough - makes you wonder why we keep following such a money driven, corrupt sport - which is a totally different thread, I guess.

NEXTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

In an official statement on their website, PSV have confirmed that Georginio Wijnaldum travels to the Alps with the rest of the squad today – not Newcastle. The Dutch champions are away until Saturday 18 July when they return to Holland. Intense speculation yesterday had claimed that PSV Captain Wijnaldum was on his way to Tyneside today to complete a move but that is now looking well wide of the mark. Obviously things can change quickly if Mike Ashley decides that credible players are an urgent requirement for the squad before they fly off to America at the weekend, but the signs aren’t great now that this day will be any more uplifting than the previous 45 that have passed since the season ended -

Is that not exactly what lens is, who we are bidding on?

I'm confused!

29 caps at 27 years old isn't quite 19 caps at 24 years old.

It's not very worrying to me at all. IF, we were interested in him, we've decided he isn't worth what they/him want.
If we rated him highly enough, I'm sure we'd pursue it so it's probably best we don't, if it means the strengthening of other areas could be affected.

Advocaat will know him very well and would have pushed the boat out to get him, if he is/was worth what is required.

Im not going to criticise people for being positive but you are being naïve.

We wont have pushed the boat out because hes costs more money than Short is willing to pay. We will sign an inferior player instead.
