That is why I was against the idea.

In the event, the flypass seems to have come across quite well. But the extent of the inherent bias of the Newcastle press shouldn't be underestimated by others in future.

They've tried to spin it but have had no joy as it wasn't arranged to arrive until 4.30 PM as confirmed by the pilot himself.

Thought the pilots point that as an aviator he was unlikely to disrespect an air disaster was one in the eye for them
 
I had an email earlier from Alan and he said because of 30 MPH winds and some low cloud they couldn't fly around Sunderland heading north which meant they arrived 10 minutes early.

As has been mentioned on here, the pilot did the fly around Sunderland heading back down south. It was reported flying over Hylton Castle, Fulwell and Barnes amongst others.

It arrived on 16th minute which was tight but OK in the end.

Shame the pilots weren't informed not to fly over the ground before 4:17. Shoddy organisation.

The were told to turn up at 4.30 PM as mentioned in the Chronicle. I told them that 5 minutes either side was fine but strictly not prior to 4.20 PM or after 4.45 PM. I could not have made it any clearer and have emails from Alan the pilot to prove it.
