They have invested in Root but refuse to do likewise with young Taylor.

Yes ok, but who in the side could he get ahead of - assuming no.6 will be an allrounder?

I like the kid, just not convinced about his technique in test cricket especially given his size

He's not saying that, and that is clear to everyone. However, to write him off due to his size is something to clichèd British it's unreal. Usually the sort of bollocks spouted by someone who would rather have Yaya Toure than Leo Messi cos Messi is "too small".
 
I think James Taylor is the real deal.

Is it ridiculous to think England, as shit as we are, have an embarrasment of riches in the middle order....? (I say with a hint of irony).

Trott has been a loss but I cant see why they are bringing him back now. Long term I think Root should be our No3. My jury is still out on Gary Balance... I know ODIs are different but he looked like he was batting with a cocktail stick in them.

Long term could we go;

Cook
Lyth
Root
Bell
Taylor
Stokes
Buttler
+ 4 shite bowlers?

The stick Ballance gets is laughable, he is the ICC young test player of the year, he had a fantastic summer, has that been forgotten?

Can't see why Trott has been brought back? Seriously?

Why are people obsessed with thinking long term, 33 is so young for a test player, he should have years left, and the most important thing is winning test series right now

That lineup you have there is nowhere near good enough for the Ashes this summer like.

I think he deserves a place in the squad.

Honestly I would have left Trott, quality bat clearly but clearly he has problems and should be left to live his life. imho

Even without trott Taylor doesn't get in the side like.

I';m not saying he is "too small" but his height is an issue and I'm not convinced he has the technique to cope at test level given his height. Yes, the likes of Tendulkar (5'5") and Lara (5'8") had outstanding careers but there will be 1000 other small cricketers who didn't. Both Lara and Sachin had amazing techniques and whilst Taylor (5'3") looks promising you cannot just say he will succeed because other small cricketers have too....
