why do England judge him on his bowling he barely bowls and the last 2 seasons he has over 1000 runs batting which goes without being noticed
At numbers 3/4/5 we have Ballance,Bell and Root who are all better batsmen.

England have been looking for a leg spinner since Shane Warne came onto the scene.

He doesn't bowl much at the Riverside but has bowled 50+ overs a game at Old Trafford and the Oval IIRC.

No spinner is going to get picked for England if he's a bunny with the bat, that was one factor in Monty initially losing his place to Swann. His batting will be a factor in his selection.

would you have him in the England team

true mind when he has bowled he has been no where near international standard
He did ok in the test last year, 4 wickets for 82 - I'm not sure what they were looking for or if they really expected him to do better.

His problem is hitting his lengths consistently - too many full tosses and half trackers and as a result he goes for a lot of runs. Having said that in the 2013 season he did pretty well, I think there was only one spinner in the 1st Div who did better and he did better than Monty on most measures.

good lad scotty. dont care re england, as long as he continues to improve the durham side. also if he reads this, get the red trainers back out for this season

I'm not knocking his performances in the last 2 years - hes done well and is a good cricketer. However batsmen playing every game in the county season should be getting 1000 runs. It should be a bare expectation rather than the criteria to be playing for England.
