When we are talking about liam Plunkett making a difference at international level then you know we are in trouble. The top and bottom is there is a class difference in the quality of cricketers Australia have at the moment compared to England.
18 professional teams and we don't have one spin bowler anywhere near international standard.

I don't think it's massively unexpected for defeat here we've been hammered by Australia in the last two series we've had with them. In one of them we even had the mighty KP who used to single handedly defeat every team he played against. This is going to be almost as hard as it could get as a warm up and hopefully we'll get more and more competitive with a few wins as the series goes on.

He's unpopular on here but Woakes looks to be slowly improving this year but Finn is way off and I can't see Jordan winning matches with the ball either so the bowling is a worry.

Any team can lose early wickets but I don't see the point of Bopara in the top 6 unless it's a slow wicket where he's going to be a useful bowler as well.

Yeah but aussies are playing Xavier Doherty, so bit of a mute point, who have SA got as their spinner, NZ? There is a lack of spinners about in world cricket to be fair.

Yeah if Bopara isn't going to bowl, he shouldn't play, he isn't one of the best ODI batsmen in the country is he

To be fair England dropped him for the India series at home, and for some reason there was an outcry in the media, I think that almost got him back in

Lets wait and see when this series is finished

I still think we can score big runs, just today was a nightmare start that they couldn't recover from.

New zealand have got Patel but choose not to play him, yet in county cricket he is by a mile better than any English spinner. Aussies are a bit short but have an incredible stock pile of fast bowlers. Hastings comes to Durham and looks as good a bowling all rounder as England have yet he is miles away from the Aussie national side and when Victoria have all their players available struggles to make the State side.
Most of the players selected for this England squad when they play county cricket are far better than most of the players on the county circuit.

Yeah I agree with a lot of that, but there aren't many good spinners about, Patel has done well recently but has struggled other years. He himself doesn't want to get picked I think.

I think England has a lot of good young batsmen though, especially at test level, think some of them could go onto have excellent careers

Main worry is the lack of pace bowlers coming through
 
Jimmy needs to be handled with care this year when you look at the schedule if he's gonna play all formats or even if he just played 2 it's still hectic.

Finn and Broad being so expensive isn't great news and let's be honest the wickets only started to fall when the bonus point was in sight so more risks were taken as it was a sure thing.

No spinners no pace bowlers, that means one thing you don't win many cricket matches be it tests, odi or t20
