Defoe

Yeah, but some people fail to look past his previous exploits to see where he is now. He was dreadful for us in his last year, offered nothing, totally anonymous and off the pace. We did brilliantly to get the money we did for him.

The same people probably think Lennon is still a very good winger that attacks fullbacks
There's plenty on here creaming themselves over a 32yr old past his prime. It's a bit embarrassing as a fan of my club.

He's not even a top 8 signing as is.
We've had one decent striker since Phillips. Bent, for 18 months, then he was shit, then he went to Villa and was shit.

There's no coffee to smell in Sunderland, just cowpat.

Fantastic signing, the first time for a long time we get a lad who is an out and out goalscorer, and very good at his trade.

If the lad is fit to go we will be a real threat.

Fair enough. As an eternal optimist I'm going to cling to the fact that a lot of Spurs fans didn't rate Darren Bent so mustn't have very good judgement! ;)

Why the fuck are people concerned about what we have spent after moaning for weeks about needing players tell me a better player we could of got in exchange for altidore even if we sold him we would of only got 3 million or something ,Watford rate troy deeney at ten million Rhodes is twelve? O Shea has proved your not over the hill at 32 Defoe is prob actually at his prime he's at least got two seasons how old is van persie or robin, rooneys in his 30s drogba was at his best in his 30s sheringham and shearer 32 is fuck all man and if he scores the goals that keep us up this season he's already paid it back

Is that the same Bent that Spurs couldn't wait to get rid of?

Spurs lad at work was saying he would still be at Spurs if AVB had been sacked earlier. Sherwood came out and said he wanted to keep him, but he had already signed

we aint a top 8 team and he is better than liverpools strikers

so we're signing the dirty bastard who stamped on Gordon's arm, great

seriously though it's a good signing on paper but unless Gus has finally decided to give up on his 'system' having an out and out goalscorer means fuck all as we just happen to create fuck all

Personally I think we couldn't be getting a better deal considering the circumstances. We get rid of Altidore and get Defoe, a striker who knows the league, has scored a bucket of goals before and won't need time to settle. We are signing him before some key home games against Burnley, QPR, and West Brom and we've struggled to beat sides at home because of a lack of goals. He could also be signed before Spurs this weekend which is ideal. He'll be so up for it and hungry to score this weekend.

Nobody knows exactly how much we are buying him for, but if you consider how hard it is to find an experienced Premier League goalscorer in such short notice, this is a fantastic bit of business. Other clubs around us will be envious and be afraid that we've finally found a solution to our biggest problem which is scoring goals. We could have tried to sign some striker from a foreign league or from the championship for over 10 million but the downside to that is they probably wouldn't have any PL experience and would take time to settle in, plus it might cost us even more to do that.

All in all, this is great news.

We aren't a top 8 team. Defoe is a very good singing for us.

If it's basically £6m plus Altidore then it's a good deal. Just hope that he's fit and ready to go ASAP and that he still has the hunger and desire. If so, he'll get us 10-15 goals a season which is well worth the money for a club like us.
