game over england win thanks to modern ali, hales and two perfectly paced innings by buttler and root. england scored a lot of 6s today and it was good to see

Except he's probably captain for the next match as Cook is banned.

and Scyld Berry says in the Tel that Stokes should be promoted to four as he's wasted and not worth his place as a 'bowling only' player.

Think we need to expand our pool of players who can captain a side while holding down a place on merit.

Tbf Stokes needs to do more with the chances given him. His figures have been atrocious for an occasional bowler.

Personally I think Cooks only the one day Captain because he's the five day Captain and he's only the 5 day Captain because there's no one else.

Scyld says he prefers Stokes in the position ahead of Root.

As for Stokes, he's a proper batsman who can hit out and score quickly however, he's not accurate enough for a one day bowler - maybe that's something he'll develop as time goes on. Because he can't do it he appears to be losing confidence. He's a good test bowler because he has the knack of taking wickets. So keep him in the 1 day side for his batting and in the test for all-round ability.

England aren't handling him right at present and I reckon it's evens that he'll be playing at Durham a lot next season, which is Durham's gain and England's loss.

The likes of Taylor have done absolutely nothing to justify their inclusion, the levee of county cricket attacks is shocking

Firstly, I have no idea why Ballance isn;t there, he really really should be

People dismissing the likes of Bell, he should play, on quick pitches in australia, against Steyn and Johnson, you want proven players at that level.

There have been some big scores in ODI cricket, but what doesn't get mentioned is a lot of teams rest their main bowlers for ODI series after the tests.

Even Cook, although I wouldn't pick him, will be valuable against the world class attacks

Taylor, he did pretty well in the Semi-final against Durham. While Durham's bowling is not top international level it's pretty good compared to the norm at County level. The other thing is that Taylor scored a century when looking at a Durham score of 353 while other players were failing around him.

Personally I'd give him a game, there's no point taking a squad if all they do is sit on their behinds without playing, but then I'm not too bothered about winning this series and I'm just seeing it as preparation.

How the fuck is anyone supposed to be selected if County cricket is not considered a suitable benchmark? Woakes, Gurney and several others are in there by virtue of their county form.

Besides, Taylor has produced the goods time after time for the Lions, including a double ton in SL last year. You have to wonder what else he needs to do for a bite of the cherry (nobble Morgan I suspect).

I never said he wouldn't do well, but some people are saying he should definitely be starting, based just on county for, he deserves a chance. he is lucky to be ahead of ballance though

Hales nailed on to be dropped now

cook deals with young bowlers out of form so badly, it is ridiculous, just totally ignoring stokes

gotham spot on here like, exactly how I feel, Cook has no faith in certain players, they everything not to pick Stokes, so he feels he has to do something every time he goes in
