Sri Lanka v England 2nd ODI

It is nothing short of ludicrous that Cook is going to lead us in the World Cup.

He should be nowhere near the side let alone leading it.

His stubbornes and willing to stand up to scrutiny of his Test captaincy served him well in that arena but unlike Test match cricket he simply isnt suited to the ODI format in the current era.

If it wasn't for India's abject away form and not giving a flying bollocks about test matches he'd be gone by now.

Is if worth noting that the current ODI champions didn't have a single player in today's team and the runners-up only 1 - who never plays for his county anyway......

Is this where we're going wrong?

The primary purpose of these games is to prepare the team for Australia.

To that end they should find a way, any way, to get Taylor and Hales into the side.

Players who are good enough but out of form should be given time to find their feet. To me this means continuing with Bell, Morgan, Root.

I also think that England for the past year have not been dealing with Ben Stokes properly. They're treating him as if he's a bowler who is also a tail-end slogger. He's not, he's a proper batsman who can score quickly and who is also a blower. At present he's lost his rhythm bowling and he's playing too far down the order to bat properly. I'd restore him to the team and promote him up the order.

I don't think either Gurney nor Jordan have justified their inclusion but I'd pick both at different times whenever balance between batting and bowling are needed.

Finn on coming back from injury should continue.

I think it would be better to give Cook at rest at this stage.

M Ali
Hales
Bell
Morgan
Root
Stokes
Bopara
Buttler
Woakes
Gurney/Jordan/Tredwell
Finn

they're turning him into a bits and pieces cricketer and will never get the best out of him if they do that.

i predict taylor and hales will play once we are 4-0 down

truly pathetic today. the wrong captain, the wrong team selected but as long as bell and cooks averages are maintained, nowt changes

Well did you expect the ECB to actually pay any attention to the domestic competition for ODI cricket. No they just decided to keep playing test batsmen in cook, root and bell. Rather than playing the two of the best short form batsmen in Taylor and Hales.

Wouldn't surprise me if these decisions are down to ecb and Money ... We can't drop 3 centrally contracted players!!

England perform rubbish in the first match so who's to blame - Stokes judging by the fact he was the only one dropped despite several players coming up short.

England perform rubbish in the second match. No doubt that will be Stokes fault as well in the eyes of Peter Moores.

How the fuck Harry Gurney is considered an international bowler I'll never know.

Team selection is a shambles, same old tried and tested failures.

We're basically hopeless at one day cricket, have got no chance in the World Cup.
Cook playing is a joke he should be binned but really it makes no difference we're way behind everybody else.

We have some good players but we don't stick to a gameplan. Too much chopping and changing, rearranging the batting order.....

Reminds me of the Morecambe and Wise sketch - "I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order".
