Watched him play against for Hull on New Year's Day in 1990.

He took some grief that day but took it all in a good hearted way and even saved a penalty

Sad news RIP

I remember him coming back to play against us and he banged into the Goalpost it was cockeyed the rest of the game. RIP big man.

SAD NEWS: Former Blackpool goalkeeper Iain Hesford has passed away at the age of 54. Thoughts are with his family at this sad time. #RIP

No age that :cry: R.I.P. fella

Very sad news.

I remember when he first signed he was no great shakes, but made it up big time in the 3rd Division promotion season.

The whole end singing 'Hesford' after we had beaten Port Vale to go straight back up was the unaminous forgiveness of everything that happened before.

As others have said, 54 is too young to die.

RIP Hesford...Hesford...Hesford

RIP Hesford - goalie when I started going to Roker as a 10 year-old.

Between him, Tim Carter and Tony Norman, our Late eighties/early nineties 'keepers have been dealt some rotten hands.

Why Tony Norman? I've never read any bad news about him in recent years? Not sure I want an answer now tbh. :(

RIP big fella

Always wanted to be the kid he picked out of the crowd to fire some shots at him during the warm up in front of the Fulwell.

FTM

I got the chance to do this as a 12 year old and against blackpool in 1987 at Bloomfield Rd. That's was my home town and all my friends were watching from the Blackpool end whilst I had my Sunderland kit on. I remember hitting a shot at him thinking he had no chances stopping it. The cheeky sod saved it with a thunderous header. I'll never forget that moment. Haha

I think he's got ms (or something like that) and it curtailed his career in the police

Just looked now. He has a rare heart condition. Gotta be a blessing this didn't happen during his playing days!
