Breese's new job

He's joined the Durham Cricket Board as a cricket and development officer but seems to have told them that if he gets an offer to play elsewhere then he'll be away, though he and his family clearly have no desire to leave the area.

As he's going to be here anyway, why can't he be retained as a player as well? His one day performances in particular were hardly those of a bloke at the end of his career.

Bit of a kick in the teeth to anyone turned down for the role if the bloke offered it says he is only taking it if nothing else comes along!

Still doesn't mean he should automatically be given a job. He may well have been the best candidate, but to assume his cricketing ability alone will make him an ideal Development officer is a risk.
Yea, but he's also being doing a bit of coaching this last season. Maybe not much but surely enough for people to see whether he can or can't.

Pringle is going to have to step up next season with the white ball, massive gap left by Breese.

(Unless of course they bring in an overseas or give Borthwick more responsibility"

You seem to be ITK, is it going to happen?

That's just it...I don't know. At the last members forum Jon Lewis said it was virtually sorted. Here we are a few weeks later and nothing is sorted. His agent is Neil Fairbrother I believe. Is he holding the club to ransom I wonder?

Possibly.

Who else is leaving apart from Breese?

Is he out of contract this summer?

Be disaster if he did leave, but I could understand if we wanted to go to a county and bowl more.

agree with the above comments about Pringle, if Breese is not going to play (which looks certain), then give Pringle a run, he certainly can bat from the limited time I have seen him. It is interesting that all the young cricketers Durham see to produce all have more than 1 string to their bow, they must coach both equally at the academy?

His family clearly wont leave the area as his wife is settled in the NE as a GP getting paid a canny wedge I would imagine.

I think Paul Carrick got one of the other jobs up for grabs to work full time with the DCB womens teams. He worked part time with them last year. I think his full time job ATM is with the DSS which he will clearly leave now.

Not sure if Cole Pearce got one of the other jobs. He was odds on to get it. Heard that Chris Martin from CLS CC was also a candidate. Cole however had worked with the DCB U12s last year so stood a great chance of getting the job. Nice lad.

The lad from Washington CC, Adam Hickey, who captained the DCB U17s last year to national success is a one to watch out for. Also heard that next year the Durham Academy will not contain purely Academy kids but will also include some club cricketers. they kept on getting hammered in the NEPL and it seems to me that its thought that its best for them to not all be chucked in at the deep end together so will have some experienced hands to keep it all together.

Roy Keane was probably not the best candidate for Sunderland given he had no managerial experience............ He put Sunderland back on the map.

Gareth Breese has been at the club for 11 years, he's been doing a lot of coaching with the players in the last 2-3 year and he knows Geoff Cook very well who is doing a lot of work with the academy at the moment. I'd say Gareth Breese is the ideal candidate and choice.

I'm still waiting for Borthwick to sign his contract.

Was it you who said he signed it about 2 month ago?

Breese, Cole Pearce and Chris Martin got the three roles as far as I am aware PC did not get one despite being a more than qualified candidate.

Wonder if Breese will turn out for the Academy  Next season sure I saw that they were going to mix it up next year?????
