I played for Cally in the last DCCL side to win the treble approx 7/8 years ago now. We had a great side. The other "big fish" you are referring to posts on here and unfortunately will see this and love it! May I add he'll be reminiscing whilst massaging his poorly shoulder when really he's still young enough to bat middle (well lower) order and turn his arm over a la kenners from Easington, latterly ryhope, eppleton and houghton. Personal favourite of mine ain't that right @Mrjardine ??? Hahahaha

The person you're referring to is quite happy in retirement and enjoying educating the hapless posters of pure football on the beautiful game!

Common feeling in the league that Calvin should have been playing higher standard i think , people have their reasons of course and far be it from me etc. Didn't he move up for a season or so CLS or somewhere ?

Calvin was 33 when moved to coast league so as good as he still was he would admit himself his best days were probably behind him. When in his pomp he played for one of the best sides in North East cricket at that time (Crook). It was him who went to CLS for couple of years and also played about 3 seasons in senior league as well so I'm sure he'd take exception to that big fish comment as well. In fairness he couldn't tie callys boot laces but he wouldn't tell him that!
What about that dull wicky they had who adorned his bedroom walls with photos of tavare and boycott?
Always felt his brother was better value personally!

Aye to be fair I had forgot about his crook days and with him looking young, I never realized how mature in the game he was at murton i suppose.

In my opinion senior league in 70's and 80's was better than county championship now.
Look at overseas now in county championship and look at Pros from back then
Captain of best team in world was playing for burnmoor Richie richardson
Jim Allenby who I have played with and is a very good player and prob one of best 30 players in county championship would have been a bit part player in senior league back then

Ah, Burnsey, The Ginger Magician. Must have been a bowler's nightmare in his pomp. Ye right on the 15 year too late although I won't argue the Colly bit but to say both dogged, determined and competitive. Very similar and still think Durham got it wrong going with Glendenen instead of Burnsey. His Minor Counties record is fantastic.
An interesting point would be how many of the local lads we see playing for Durham now wouldn't have seen the light of day if we hadn't have made the right step in becoming a First Class County (of the highest order as it turns out!!!). We could probably talk for a week through the players who played Minor County for Durham who could've played at a higher standard.

made an absolute mug of me. Think I registered a 9 or 10 ball duck opening up iirc. On the spot, swinging in and away. Bowled a few away swingers, which I left or played and missed then set me up with an in swinger. Played a cover drive and straight through the gate.
He didnt even react when me stumps rattled. Meat and drink for him

I could hardly lay a bat on him in the nets..not great for your confidence going into the season.
He always said he was taking it easy on me as I was a canny slip/gully fielder and took a few catches off his bowling whenever I was drafted into the 1st team
