Collingwood - Captaincy

Totally agree with you they where all well paid and the club had to make some decisions. You prefer Colly/Lewis, i would have let them go and kept Benks.
Fair enough, I suspect history already shows we made the right decision ;)

Benks was devolving himself of responsibility, Colly up was there asking for it. It really was a no brainer

how was he? He was about to be made coach of the one day side when cook had his heart attack....?

and the fact we are on the verge of surviving relegation doesn't exactly seem proof we made the right choice

He gave up the captaincy is what I mean

he 'gave up' the captaincy as he wanted some continuity for the years after him, he handed it on to smith in the hopes that he could tutor him into being an excellent replacement for himself in the future.. hardly sacking it off like

'E's my facking 'ero.
Haha! That takes me back

I was a bit concerned about his captaincy when we got absolutely trounced by Warwickshire - then again I did see 17 of our wickets fall in less than a days play, so slightly biased and hurt. However, I've been impressed with him at the other four county games I've been to this season. Absolute class actually ...

My favourite ever sportsman, still get the impression he isn't appreciated enough. Certainly at England level but even at Durham. Might be wrong.

Every messes up at some point. His record as skipper for us has been very good. Managing a young, inexperienced side to the title last season was brilliant. For me it was our best Championship win as the previous squads were so much stronger.

Safe to say, he's no Parsons. ;-)

maybe when he retires from FC he can join the cheetahs as vice captain?

Bloke's a legend.
He is clearly a good captain and motivator but I've spoken to him a few times and personally I dont particularly like the bloke. Comes across as quite brash, in your face and a bit unpleasant really. There is an edge to him. Not only that but if you ask other people about him ie members and others he isnt particularly popular. Its well known that Geoff cook always wondered how he made the career for himself that he did. quotes in the public domain about how Cook didnt think he was the most talented cricketer he had ever seen at Durham.

tbf colly himself would admit to being hardly the most talented cricketer, he always exemplified someone who made the absolute most out of limited technique rather than someone who was born into natural skill and failed to deliver with it. i imagine that is in big part to playing with a chip on his shoulder, i can't speak about him personally, i've had a brief chat and got a picture with him and the ex missus and he seemed nice enough but that is it.

I completely went off the bloke after the episode with Benkenstein. I know exactly what happened because Dale told me. I felt quite uncomfortable about the way Benks was treated.

In terms of?

Must admit I know for a fact Collingwood isn't too popular with some sections of members, whether people think that is right or wrong is open for debate. One very well attended member on twitter was wanting him sacked after the Warwickshire defeat then whinged the club blocked him on twitter :)

The Benks situation was handled very badly and it was a huge mistake by the club and coaching staff.

For the record I don't mind Collingwood, he's doing a good job and still has plenty to offer. Just a shame he got shot of Benks.
