Alreet then. Would Strauss's team have let a side back into it from 63/6?

India are a very inexperienced team playing outside their comfort zone.

No, but they had Swann.

We have two very good front liners and two absolutely shite back ups. India were blown away by our top two and got a few runs once they were out of the game. Once they came back in, gone!

What use would Swann be on a first day fast/swing bowlers' wicket?

Decision to play Woakes over Finn or Stokes was a poor one.

Swann was dangerous most of the time regardless. Im not even sure of the point of this? I slate Cooks captaincy more than most, but im not hammering him when A) we basically have two good quicks as our attack and B) we still rolled them out for nowt.

This is turning into a good test match, gerrin.

No but youre comparing a very good side to a very average one there.

It's the mentality though as well. Steve Waugh wasn't originally part of a great side, it was built up over time, but his ruthlessness and agressive mentality was there from the start. England have seemed to play innings by innings over the last two and half years or so rather than chase the opposition from the start. Same has happened again today.

Boycott saying this pitch is superb and all test grounds should be looking to have similar pitches.

If you win the toss and its sunny, with clear blue skies, you bat. If you win the toss and its cloudy and muggy, you pause for a moment, then you still bat.

Shane Warne

Foot off the gas? India have bowled well.
Shane Warne doesn't live in Manchester though

Finn and Stokes would have been a lot better, shocking decision to go with the poorer bowlers.

Point being, Anderson and Broad aside (who were brilliant) England have not actually been that good in this test.

One of the warning messages to come from the 2013 Ashes was we were far too dependent on a minority of players (particularly Bell).

Chosen for their batting. Thought Woakes deserved another go after Southampton but he's been poor - not even economical to offset his wicketlessness.

As someone pointed out on here yesterday, we seem to select our bowlers for their batting

Me. Getting like a stuck record!

Is Jordan really that much better than Stokes with the bat to merit his lack of cutting edge? On a par with dropping Dominic Cork to play Chris Lewis.

Jimmy has shown he can bat against this lot, which would offset Finn's capabilities. Broad is no mug with the bat either, how deep does Cook need the batting?

Good partnership by these two BTW! Gan on Rooty.

Pankaj, Ashwin and Jadeja offernig little on this wicket. Runs to be had if we see off Kumar and Aaron.

Rain on its way....:(

Those dark clouds in the distance are over my flat (it's raining in Didsbury), it's not moving towards the ground. I'm not saying any other clouds aren't approaching it though!

Temp has dropped about 10 degrees since lunch. I've had to take my sunglasses off.

Rain can't be far away.

Yep. Thunder and rain.

Having a bloody good Jacky Roocher in Consett too.

Wonder how long before we see the first roofed cricket ground? Would be worth a fortune to Lancs surely.

PS apparently Melbourne has one. Wonder who did the cost-benefit analysis for that?

Dunedin, Manchester, Cardiff I can understand.
