Not a lot of positive comments on this thread given the state of the game. Surprisingly really. It could of course all turn to rat shit but so far England has had a great day.

That third wicket was a blow and for me sending a night watchman in just deflated me totally. Such a negative tactic which to me sends a message that we're on the back foot/being defensive.

It's also likely a gift of an early wicket tomorrow and we'll probably be 4 down before we get a lead. The pitch isn't as bad as their score suggested and any lead fewer than 200 for us could have us facing a tricky fourth innings.

That's the negativity out the way. Hopefully Jordan either sticks around for a while or goes out and twats a few boundaries (preferably both) and we get a lead without further loss.

We've got the best bloke at the other end to carry us into the lead anyway and plenty of positive batting to come (Root aside).

Weather wise it's probably not a bad thing that 13 wickets fell today. If we can get 350 on the board tomorrow I'd hope we'd have enough time to complete the win.

Even England can't fuck this up. We are miles ahead and India look shot to bits.

You're right we can't take it away from England's bowling performance today - absolutely brilliant. Just having been totally demoralised watching Durham throw away games from very winnable positions (Canterbury and Hove), not forgetting Taunton, I tend to be a bit cautious (depressingly pessimistic actually!). The odds are we'll get a reasonable first innings lead, but realistically we should be able to get a commanding lead and win it without batting again ... fingers crossed and everything like ....

Rain tomorrow which will change the dynamics of the game again.

Interestingly the forecaster has said that they can't accurately predict what time the rain will arrive ..... but there's no doubt it's going to hoy it down at some stage tomorrow . Just hope the lads can get a good fruitful session in at the crease .....

You have got to be kidding me? Even by SMB standards, criticising England for sending a night watchman out with 3 balls left in the day is ridiculous. It's possibly the most straightforward decision in cricket.

3 balls. Not 3 overs, 3 balls.

If they'd has sent the number 5 out, and he'd have been dismissed, it would have been one of the all-time worst decisions and they would have rightly been torn to shreds.

Jesus wept.

Eh? 3 balls to go until stumps and rather than send in night watchman Jordan who can survive and then have a bat in the morning, you want to send in England's potentially best batsman who can bat long and with the tail if necessary. Sticking Jordan in was correct.

I don't like nightwatchmen. Alright with you lads?? Think it's weak. Like you say, only 3 balls. A proper batsman should be able to see that through and then come back in the morning. If he gets a jaffa - unlucky. That's cricket.

So I hope you two don't lose too much sleep over my preference not to have nightwatchwen.

You may not like nightwatchmen (I'm not a fan either), but in no way does it send out a message that we're on the defensive or the back foot.

In that position, every single team in the world would be sending one out - even the ultra aggressive Aussies would have done it, it's common sense.

No sleep lost here fella, a day watching the match and a couple of beers and I sleep like a log.

Just pointing out that you are completely wrong. Ridiculous levels of wrong, contradicting the entire 200 year history of the game levels of wrong.

Breaking news... India have asked whether they can appeal their decision to Bat first.

Mooen has a SR of 31 root 52 in this series ;)

If England lose its cos we are shit. If England win its cos the opposition are shit. Keep up mate.
England have done brilliantly. No question. You can only beat whats in front of you and all that.

But don't tell me that, in these conditions at least, India are anything other than ordinary.

India matchfixing again

batting in them condiitions

Yep, apart from the fact the stats show batting first is a must at OT, the pitch being a belter and all the experts and forecasters saying day 1 was going to be the best day for batting with all the weather around you are correct.

I think most analysts are questioning Dhoni's reading of the atmospheric conditions, not the pitch.

But the atmosphere is only going to get worse due to the weather - which was some of the so called experts point.

Some think just cos its cloudy it means the ball will always swing. The Rose Bowl in Southampton plays exactly the opposite.
