SAFC have just called me. They've explained that although they don't normally give donations to things like this they're going to keep an eye on the situation and I've got to call them when we've got the final amount. I think that's fair enough.

Excellent news. Like many others have saiod, I take my hat off to you.

It's a great gesture mate, well done.
Well I'm married to a NUFC fan and my best mate is one as well, so the unison shown by both sets of fans probably pleases me more than most. The money raised is unbelievable but what you've started off with regards to relations between both sets of fans would be a fantastic lasting tribute to John Alder and Liam Sweeney if it can be carried forward!

Just a quick update.

I've accepted the generous offer quoted above and they will be auctioned off next Saturday night as part of the HatTrick fundraiser at The SOL.

Oh aye while every fker is in Portugal.
Suppose all the people all the time etc.

We all know it wont be & tbh don't expect it to be
Great gesture & solidarity from all , but this will not change the rivalry or hatred fans of both clubs have for each other

About time fans on both sides realised the rivalry starts and stops on the football pitch. I have banter with my best mate, wife, in laws etc and it can get tasty at times but we know where the line is and afterwards it's business as usual. Whether you like it or not NUFC are our nearest neighbours and exactly the same as us, unlike fans from other parts of the country, we should therefore have a lot more in common and not spend ourlives pulling each other to bits.

I strongly disagree with this arresting and jailing of people who post offensive shite online, it's becoming a joke, opinions are like arseholes everyones got one.
Smacks of the nanny state that Britain has become.

I believe that is Liam Sweeney's brother. Him holding the Sunderland side and Sir Bernie holding the Newcastle side wasn't lost on me.

I just tried but when I clicked on "donate" it said it wasn't set up to accept donations.

If it doesn't work then I'll do it next Thursday when I get back to the UK.

Great stuff lads, proud to be from the NE!

Done as promised. Can't believe when I last checked it was £2k, now it's over £32k. Hats off to everyone
