Striker
39 yearold batsman Darren Stevens opening the bowling for Kent in their last CC match.

The laughable thing is he took a 5fer!

I thought there was financial recognition for counties who produce England players?

Some of the counties are hideous, full of ringers or with medium pace journeymen opening the bowling.

Just saying like...

i completely and utterly could not care less.

England cricket team - contributes nowt to the county scene except taking the best english players out of it.

I recall sky commetators were harking a few years ago that a counties sole reason for existing should be to provide & develop youngsters into international talent.

Durham have done that more than anyone in recent years and although I care a lot more for DCCC than the ECB, having the likes of Darren Stevens & Peter Trego opening the bowling for their counties cant be healthy for the game.

aye, i'm sure i felt the same about football league and england once upon a time.

i go to watch durham play cricket because i love durham cricket not because i wonder who could be the next up and coming england stars.

the fact is you get more people at county games there to see the foreign stars than you do england lads cuz theyre all robbed off, even if it is just so 3 days later they can carry the drinks.

example down at hove there was some middlesex blokes and a guy from kent i chatted to who had come up to see sangakarra play. maybe if the england players ever turned out for the county side there would be more people there and more batting practise for the lads. pace bowlers you can understand a bit better they had to watch their workload but haway man a medium needs to be found.

finance has kind of dicated this, and luckily or otherwise we have a battery of young talented players to come in. with the likes of stevens finances have dictated him playing too, but a good solid pro he is, ive no qualms about him and trego carrying on playing

Swann and Panesar, who's bowling spin for them these days?
Matthew Spriegel and James Middlebrook come to mind. Completely forgot Swann and Panesar played for them.

Edit: Now that i think about it, who was the last Gloucester player to get a game for England?

Two obvious ones

List here. Unless Im blind, maynards not on it but got 4 caps according to cricinfo; tjought it was more

Not many like

I vaguely recall him playing a test during the summer of four captains, probably replaced Gatting after he was sacked for shagging a prossie.
