Mags closing in on Siem De Jong...

Decent swoop by the mags after only a few hours of closing in. Not a hijack in sight; I suspect a well prepared bid with months of continuous preparation. I hope our Borini bid is so adequately prepared at present and ready for take off.

this whole jardine/boilermaker charade and love fest is really rather boring. The mods should grow some balls and actually do something about it.

People in general get a bonk on after their club buys a player with a cool sounding foreign name it's the natural thing to do

It is just find I rather strange how most on this thread are discounting the lads ability and achievements thus far. Must be because we signed Jozy from the same league and people are tagging SDJ with the same brush.

Funny if we signed him i think most of the board would be very happy.

Personally speaking I wouldn't be. He doesn't have premier league experience so will need time to adjust. In all honesty I know nothing about him so would see it as a risk signing. Having said that I don't think it will make much of a difference to them. They have these great scouts who find gems only for pardew to not have a clue how to play them and coach any bit of quality out of them. I like our new approach as opposed to last seasons. Players established in this league without the element of risk.

Which are? He's almost 26 and has just left the Netherlands for a midtable English club for a modest price he's hardlys the new Ruud Gullitt

He's Ajax's captain, he is hardly an unknown gem, he will be a good player for them.

That's what am saying though. I think his performances from what I have seen and his ability means it's a good signing for Newcastle. A very good one infact.

Every signing has risk. Captain of Ajax who has own trophies each year and a good gold scoring record doesn't seem a huge risk for 7.5m.
