Sledging

There was a good amount of sledging in our game yesterday, some really funny stuff. Any stories of some good local league sledging?

The majority of it is horrific.

I find it cringeworthy in local cricket. People generally trying to be clever and I can honestly say I have never seen sledging actually work in all of the cricket I have played.

It's always crap.

Had wearmouths stand in captain try it yesterday, asking if I ever played on the offside. After every delivery, I replied by smashing one over mid off for 4.

Didn't say another word
So you responded then . You sound easy bought , I would be at you next time ;)
Sledging can be counter productive when up against good players, it just stimulates them to stick around and focus .

I've always found wearmouth a little chirpy, same with Eppleton, their juniors are by far the worst I've witnessed.

Was never once sledged in the 100s of junior games I played in 90s. Just never happened.

Was a bloody nasty shock, my first 2nd team game when Philli abused me for 15 overs. Billy Brownsword IIRC the fat f***ing big mouth. Had no comeback. Just sat in dressing room after thinking what the fuck happened there.

If you're good enough, and witty enough to pull it off then fair play. Anything personal is off limits.

I prefer to stay quiet and/or support the bowler/fielders myself.

Only time I've been "sledged" was while fielding in a cup game late last season, lost the ball in the setting sun and dropped a catch. Cue much laughter from the remaining batsmen on the boundary and a few ironic cheers when I fielding the next ball that came to me. We won, like, so not that bothered.

Complete cracker jack he was .

Or yeah agree with that good swing bowler,in swingers if I remember rightly but a few years since I played against him,not a bad middle order bat at second team level as well.[/QUOTE

Phili used to have club full of 1 and 1/2 players i.e too good for seconds but struggled in 1sts

Possibly tried a bit as a young'un just to be smart or cocky, but as an adult I couldn't be arsed. Prefer to just get behind the bowling and fielding of my own side.

As has been mentioned. You look a right twat if it doesn't come off. Internationals and professionals can get away with it to a degree but I find club cricketers doing it cringeworthy.

Crook, Castle Eden and Washington have been the worst for it in my experience.

I wonder what game that was
I seem to remember you being sledged by your own team mates;)
