Our development team play the last game of the season on Sunday and have a chance of winning the league

The Sunday team have performed beyond any of our expectations and everyone who have played have contributed

Generally we have played with 7 junior cricketers form under 13 to under 18 with our best batting performance with from an under 14 and 6 wicket hauls from under 16 and under 14 players

Big thanks to the voice of reason and former player for the chance for the young team to perform

The Development team is a great opportunity for youngsters to get their teeth cut in with far older players. Annfield Plain played an Under 11 v Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago. He came into bat with one of the Under 13's and they needed 22 to win. They knocked them off with the Under 11 scoring 11 not out and he scored the winning runs. Fair play to Phili who kept their younguns on when the game got close.

Saddened to hear this.

Kenny was a real gentleman, and his coaching must have helped in the development of legions of players, both at Eppleton and in Durham County in general.

Washington ended up winning the league. How did that happen?

Eppleton had 2 games called off unlike Washington. The thing I noticed was Eppleton beat Washington both home and away so it was quite confusing considering they won the league. I play for a NEPL 3rd team and have to say Eppleton had a better Sunday 3rd team than Washy?

Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed that day playing against an Eppleton 2nd team. We turned up with myself and one other senior player then juniors down to an under 12 player. Bowled them out for less than 120 and knocked them off for the loss of 3 wickets. Absolutely brilliant having been surplus to requirements at ECC at the start of the season and joining Sacriston to play in the same team as my son.

Another one of our former players makes the headlines once again and has become elite performance director at one of his former clubs.

Our first team fixtures are now uploaded to the site... 4 of the weekend fixtures for all division 1 clubs are going to be cup ties which might confuse... Not sure of the outcome of this but speaking to our NEPL representative sorting out the fixtures, now 1st 2nd and 3rds are in different leagues has been very hard...

Both Senior and junior nets have started and good to see some new faces at both

I'm taking it that this new cricket school at Hetton will eventually see both Hetton Lyons and Eppleton rule the roost in junior cricket given time?

I've talked to a few parents about this initiative but I cant find anyone, as yet, who lives outside of Hetton vicinity who is taking their son or daughter to it.

The new junior setup in Durham was bound to produce more competition for the better kids and so it is proving. the new central division that Eppleton is in is immensely strong. Washington, Durham City, Sacriston, Hetton Lyons, Sunderland and in time Eppleton will all provide for an extremely tough junior league to win. Am I right in thinking that Littletown have also joined that junior league?

Theres a few students outside of Hetton joining the academy in September

Yes Littletown have joined the league with an Under 11s team. Kimblesworth and Houghton have also left

I wonder if they will replicate this Academy system elsewhere in the county? I guess they'll see how this one goes first. Most of the parents that thought about this seemed to be in a quandary but as their kids were settled at the school they were at decided against an application which is understandable. It'll be interesting too see how this develops. I hope its a big success for the kids and for the DCB.

For me the problem with attracting new kids and there parents is the fact the school is in very poor condition and is to have a new school built in 2015 although the cricket coaching and teaching will be very good the look of the school may put some off.. But it's a start and made people think which I believe has to be the way forward.

By the way have seen a very good prospect at the DCC u15 county pathway course who was rapid never been involved with Durham before but plays for Marton in NYSD and has represented Cleveland his dad told me.. Some batsmen were taken out of his net as they could not cope!!! So watch this space!!
