Possible Durham overseas players

Harker is on the back of the Journal tomorrow saying they want a batting all rounder in the Stokes mould. Dead easy to come by those players of course. Also mentions the difficulty in getting players with a limited number of caps. Struggling to think who's available in that mould and not at the IPL. McClaren? Dan Christian?

Kallis fancy a swansong?

On a serious note I hope we don't go down the usual Australia A/South Africa A route many counties do. If we can get a top player great, but I would rather see a local lad with potential get a game than an Aussie reserve who will only be here for a year.

Did the Marcus North story gather any momentum?

North has been in great form domestically and would certainly add some experience. Hardly an all-rounder although a decent part time spin option.

I think he was touted as being available all season, and would be a pretty cheap option too given he is moving/has moved to the area anyway. Heard about this in October/November time but not heard since.

Durham should have been looking at new players for months. They must have known Benks was getting twitchy. Now we're in a panic just weeks before the new season starts.

We are the Laurel & Hardy of administration. Harker is probably Charlie Chaplin.

They knew when Benks returned to South Africa half way through last season that he was unlikely to return. The word was even out amongst the regulars down there that there was a power battle going on in the background. What is obvious now is that Benks was going to be named t20 coach at a meeting the day Cook had his heart attack and he was then shunted out of the coaching set up after that as Lewis (probably quite rightly from his point of view) wanted to take over all forms of the game for the first team for the rest of the season and probably had Collys backing.[DOUBLEPOST=1392383940][/DOUBLEPOST]
How come he's moved over here? Is Mrs North from up north?
Married to a lass from Gateshead.

This has been talked about before. If you look at the mould they got MDV and Benks from this was exactly what they looked for. Experienced and talented players who had been by and large overlooked by their countries.

However I'll still be surprised if they get anyone of note and I am personally dismayed at comments from Harker, who I blame for getting Durham into the financial mess they are in. If Harker says its monday then I'll say its Tuesday. He has a shockingly bad track record of financial management at DCCC - IMHO.

Aussie Mitchell Marsh plays a similar game to Stokes, he's young, keen and wants to play county cricket to help force his way into the Test side.
I'd rather see a young up and coming player here than someone at the tail end of their career, someone hungry to succeed.
Money, of course will play a big part in any appointment, as even with the recent departures, Durham still have no spare cash, only debt.

Don't think we can go along that route anymore due to tightening of regulations. I think you need to have a certain number of caps or be a current international

Mitch Marsh has played 7 limited over games for Australia but no tests, so I don't know how that would stand him for getting clearance to play.

Aaron Finch has only played ODIs and T20 for Aussie so presumably Marsh would qualify. If so,I'd agree,he'd fit the bill perfectly.

aye, total shambles of a club like. 3 titles in 6 years and just hosted an ashes test match, im embarrassed to be from durham

We've managed all this despite the administration, not as a result of it.

Just think how good we could be if there weren't any cockups.

we'll never know though, i for one thought it was a terrible move to not resign chanderpaul and a sign of penny pinching and poor management. as it was it allowed stokes to have a full season in the first team and that looks like a smart move in hindsight.

Exactly-in the space of a year we went from being fined for exceeding the salary cap to having to drastically slash the playing staff and go cap in hand to the local council for financial bail out-that sort of financial management is embarrassing. Media handling is also embarrassing- who knows who the media manager is or what he even looks like?
