Yet still consistently selects him ahead of Colback, Larsson, Gardner and Vaughan (iirc he left on loan after Poyet took over).

With Cattermole, Gardner and Larsson all gone next year that is probably £8-9m per year in wages freed up. You can bring in a hell of a lot of quality for that, IF we stay up.
 
I'd keep him until the summer. We need options and bridcutt would provide that. Cattermole is a decent player, and could be influential in a scrap.
 
Get rid if an offer comes, plays 1 good game in 10 not good enough.
Was over the moon when he came, but like a cat in headlights when the ball is being passed around him
 
he is limited in his play but he is also the best leader we have on the pitch. No one else takes that job and when hes not on the pitch it is just simply missing.

40k a week and has either looked composed in some games(mags, man city) or easily found out in others (villa, southhampton).

hes sometimes done a job, but ulimatly is a liability with cards and injuries... plus he's the refs bête noire

Johnson is our top earner and he isn't on 60k
 
people going on like Ron Manager about trasnfer fees and wages as if it was their job to organise these things miss the point. A player like Catts may be overpaid (30-40k pw?) but the likes of him and Bardsley have got about 400 PL games between them and you pay a premium for that experience. Of our new signings only Ki and Mannone have been a success so far and both came from English clubs. Giaccherini has been ok and Alonso looks like he will be decent (though he too has played in England). The rest have so far been either average at best or not trusted.

£5 million in the summer I'd say fair enough, but at this moment in time it weakens us and strengthens a rival, I hope Bridcutt signs, but it would be an unnecessary gamble to sell Cattermole now for £5m.

That's a good point. He would have been shown a red card before his arse had hit the ground if he'd made that tackle by Rafael the other day. I know it should have been a red card anyway but you get my point. There is definitely a 'Cattrmole' factor in referee's decision making.
 
His value will not diminish during the period to the end of the season and therefore purely from a financial viewpoint there is only a saving on wages to justify his sale in this window. A sale would reduce the squad options available to Gus and we are still in both cups. We need all the options possible on the playing front and that includes bringing in Bridcutt who is totally unproven at Premiership level.
 
If we get through tonight will he stay or go......Stoke or Wembley with the lads? Or will he not have a choice as Gus might make his mind up for him? A bit of a strange situation!
 
He wouldn't have much of a choice if we do decide to sell him... theoretically, he does, but I imagine he'd be heavily encouraged.

If we do somehow win the cup, it would be in a big way thanks to his performance against Chelsea, he rallied the side and drove us on in normal time.
 
This must happen every year to some players at some clubs. It only seems like a strange situation because we support a team that's in the semi-final.
 
Can't fault him for effort,passion and commitment.However,in the modern game at this level,you need to consistently produce a decent level of skill and you need a functioning brain,which he just doesn't have. If we get a fair offer,he has to go.
