Cattermol to Stoke....

Cannot for the life of me understand this thread. At this moment in time we have a midfield of Cattermole, Ki, Larsson, Gardner and Colback and people are genuinely saying we should sell Cattermole. Three of those are out of contract at the end of the season and Ki's loan will expire. If Bridcutt doesnt come off we will have zero midfielders come the end of May.
His error against Villa cost the goal and his sending off against Hull hurt us big time. He has some good games for sure but his errors have certainly hurt us. Mind if all that happens is replacing him with bloody Gardner then it would be daft to sell
option , bring vaughan back

What like colback and Gardner? Shite mate.

He's been excellent away from home. He may not be first choice if this joker from Brighton comes in but it's so stupid if we sell . The squad already needed improving, we shouldn't be selling to buy at the minute , we are 19th

He's a big part of our excellent away form

So you've written "this joker from brighton" off already despite poyet obviously rating him?

We might have to sell to buy, it certainly looks that way. If so we have to sell, if nobody wants gardner etc then a decision needs to be made on others like catts

cattermole has been decent in a few games, but he's also been a liability in some. Over the course of his contract he's been a liability a lot more than he's been excellent

It seems I'm in the minority, but I think he's been one of our best players since PDC left. I don't agree with comments that he doesn't fit our style. His holding play allows the fullbacks to get forward, and I think he's a very underrated passer. He's the best we've got at a role that we're always going to ask a player to do. Every time he's out with an injury or suspension I think we miss him, and I think he's just the kind of player that we need in the late stages of a relegation scrap.

Again, its my oppinion , I personally believe he's a terrible passer of the ball and a liabillity. He costs us as many points as he helps achieve. The fact hes not played outside the Premier league means nowt.
My point was that you said he wasn't a premier league player. Surely to qualify as one you have to play in it.

He has done; all his career.

£5 million is ok, but we dont need the £5 million to get Bridcutt (we've already bid for him) so all it means is the club will have negative spend but a rival will have been strengthened.

We haven't signed him yet! Larsson, colback and Gardner are all out of contract, Ki is on loan

It would be a ridiculous decision to sell I'm not writing this guy off, I trust Poyets judgement. But we have plenty of midfielders worse than cattermole yet he is the one to go, it's a very poor decision

It's not that he's the first to go - he's the first one that's apparently had a bid. You can't get rid of anyone unless another team wants them and nobody wants our lot.

Give your heads a shake ffs. Who the fuck in their right mind would want to buy Gardner or Larsson off us? If Gus wants to bring Bridcutt, for example, in but needs to sell before he can buy then Cattermole is our only saleable asset.

However, I do think Bridcutt would be a very good addition.

Not disagreeing with that but we needed him anyway. If we sell catts then we need another quality one in, which I suspect is not the clubs plan

Wouldn't surprise me if he leaves. Highly doubt we would get 5 m in though.
As I said after the Aston villa game he is Definitly wanting away this transfer window, looks as though he is going to get his wish.

Problem with Cattermole is that if you compare his touch and passing to a genuinely good sitting midfielder he isn't up to it. Compare him to Ki for example...

So many of his cards, red or yellow are because his touch isn't good enough so he's diving into tackles to rescue the ball. Under Poyet, the passing from the back has shown him up (as demonstrated against Villa more than once). We watched him very closely at Fulham and his effort, as ever, was first class, but he was slow, ponderous and poor technically. A different referee to Mike Dean (best in the business for me) might have viewed his tackle of Parker differently or, more likely, just a split second later into the tackle and he would have been off. You can see why he might not fit in.

Would also be another high earner of the wage bill too...
