Ashes 5th test - Sydney

The aggregate score of all of England's first innings in this series is 969. The aggregate first-innings score of Australia's last five batsmen - its not-batsmen, in other words - is 1,071.

Worst performance in relation to expectations of all time?

absolutely. I expected a tight series with England finding the extra gear to see us just over the line.

It has been an unmitigated disaster. The series started with stalwarts like Trott, Prior and Swann cemented in their positions and to lose all three for differing reasons in a single series is a massive shock to the system.

The preparation before the series was poor. The weather didn't help but the quality of opposition was no test whatsoever to the players and left them massively undercooked.

A complete shambles of a tour and has marked the end of a good spell for the England side. These things are cyclical and the ECB and the relevant people need to think with clear minds to prepare the side for the future

To be fair their bowlers have bowled great
They have bowled to a fixed plan for each of our batsmen just like lehman said they would. In turn we have no such plan, not for haddin and smith at very least, and have done nothing to address batting weaknesses Australia intended to exploit. In short the coaching and preparation have been a fiasco

They have like. Today as poor as we were they just didn't bowl a bad ball to release any sort of pressure. I thought Stokes knock was absolutely superb because for the best part he had absolutely nothing to hit.

You have got to like Stokes l,love that bit of a swagger he has,it would have been understandable first test caps in the ashes if he was a bit nervous and did not perform to his potential, but not a bit of it he has been really good.[DOUBLEPOST=1388845128][/DOUBLEPOST]
Cook and KP balls were far from unplayable and these are top class batsmen

Fair enough just don't think it was no wear near a 326 wicket,so think bowlers more at fault in this match.

Then again batting, bowling and fielding has been shit all tour.

I'll definitely go along with that. They have executed their plans superbly well though. Harris is a class act and Siddle rarely bowls a release ball. However Johnson has been superb - in world cricket these days you rarely come across a bowler that is bowling 90-93mph just about every ball with that level of accuracy on hard, fast tracks. Facing the Mitchell Johnson of old or even the likes of Shoaib or Brett Lee there was always the release ball almost every over but Johnson has been relentless and sometimes unplayable.

I have to say so we have been utter shit in playing Lyon who is a regulation offie.

indeed, as i mentioned earlier in teh thread the maturity he has showed has been the biggest surprise, rather than try and smack the ball into the car park every time as he has been guilty of for durham he has read the situation of the game and responded accordingly, been absolutely spot on, if only every batsman had played the same way....[DOUBLEPOST=1388845347][/DOUBLEPOST]

His head must be scrambled :lol:

We're going to get whitewashed off the most average australia team in living memory

Thinking back to the 2006/07 whitewash, how many of this current Australian side would get into that team? Clarke is clearly a better player now than he was then, possibly Johnson over Stuart Clark, but after that?
