If I was jealous I wouldn't have a season ticket,I would look for these chap ticket offers. However there are thousands of season ticket holders who struggle to pay for their tickets and a lot will be thinking what's the point in having a season ticket. Another way of looking at it is if every weekend you go to your local and buy a few pints say 3 quid a pint then the barman serves someone who comes in only a couple of times a year and charges him only a quid a pint you'd think that unfair.
Still sounds like jealousy to me mate. As long as I've got my pint for the price I expected and agreed to pay then I couldn't care less what the next bloke pays. I wouldn't be jealous that he'd paid less for it - I'm no worse off.

You are worse off than him,by 2 quid a pint. Why should a regular customer pay more?

I really think it's just different mind sets mate, it genuinely wouldn't bother me. I can understand that people do feel aggrieved by it though and I usually try and respect others opinion. I still think it's born largely out of jealousy though and not just a sense of fairness.

You really think so ? 'Thousands' ?

It is not as though people don't know about the offer tickets that arise during the season, it's been happening for years. People make a decision at the end of the season to renew or people decide to buy for the coming season. That's when the choice is made about cost and value and I'm pretty confident that the majority who opt to buy never give the offer tickets a second thought. It seems that the same people (not pointed at you) come on here year after year moaning about offer tickets, they just need to get over it, every club does it. I buy a season ticket because it's convenient, my seat, every game, sitting with the people I choose to, having automated methods available for cup tickets and no worry about upcoming game arrangements. I don't want to be chasing around Stubhub, getting tickets from Schools, I'm not a Uni Student and I couldn't give a monkeys if somebody gets a free ticket this or any other weekend frankly. I'm happy enough to pay what I consider a reasonable cost for my seat and the convenience I get from it - and I'd suggest that isn't something that's just a limited view.

I buy a season ticket season ticket for pretty much the reasons you mention. But yes I believe there are a few thousand who make sacrifices and struggle to buy a season ticket.

I am considering sacking off my ST next year and completing a season of going to each game through the cheaper methods. Going to keep a detailed account of where, when and how much I get tickets for. Could be an interesting study if completed accurately.

you won't get your voucher book if you do that though

fully agreed with randy. what help is it to me to get cheap tickets for other people with my ST? the people i'd get them for have ST's themselves. imo we should get some kind of subsidies for the following years ST or something like a rebate on matches we over paid for. £525 for my ST in U6 and the man u game was surrounded by kids on freebies:evil:

my sister works for the uni, she has just come and told me the uni were just giving away 75o tickets across the 3 campus, and people were picking up 3 or 4 pairs of tickets a time,

thats on top of the ones they have already handed out with the draw they do with staff and students

I couldn't give a fuck how many they give away, the more the merrier if it help fills the ground. Similarly when I cannot get to the match because I am working away I always give mt ST away for free, never thinking why should I let them get in for nowt! Don't go through life begrudging others, strive to achieve the same or better for yourself.... Even if it means packing in work and becoming a full time student paying £9k a year in fees just to get into two games for nowt

I don't dispute that lots of people may struggle but I doubt many of them are as concerned as some seem to think in regard to offer tickets. If it was as easy as some suggest to get free and offer tickets every week without fail our season ticket base would have plummeted in recent years and it hasn't to any great extent despite the shit football and offers.

So looking at well over a thousand, or two thousand tickets then? How many is in this 'draw' for the staff and students? FFS the club is selling itself short with all these free give aways. If you do not want to pay then don't come.

dont know, but i think more than 750,

if someone is offering something for free your not going to turn it down are you??

someone offers you a free pint, your not going to say, im going to pay for one instead

The problem is the expectation that it causes, 'something for nothing' and when people are paying hard earned cash for tickets is it fair? Ultimately the club is to blame for this of course - they have really lost sight of the whole issue and helped to create this expectation amongst fans now that paying the full price for tickets is for mugs.

Season ticket holders get what they're paying for. Their own seat for each game and priority for away games are incredibly valuable.

If seats aren't going to be used is it better to give them away for nothing or to leave them empty? Nobody is taking seats from anyone paying.

It's not just a Sunderland thing though. I've received tickets to Old Trafford before and to be honest didn't think twice about what any Man Utd fans opinion would have been. Those tickets were given out by Man Utd to grease wheels with corporate partners and attract investment. At least our club attempts to grease up joe public as well as just the corporate partners. It does grate a bit when others get something for nothing when you have already paid in full but it's the nature of the beast, if there wasn't a positive aspect for the club it simply wouldn't be happening.

I'm all for encouraging the next generation of supporters and rewarding those that deserve it (cheap family tickets, cheap student tickets, cheap oap tickets and free forces tickets), but if what I read on here is correct then I think the loyal full paying ST holders are increasingly having the piss taken out of them.

I knew the club did the odd few free tickets, but it seems far too prevalent these days.

Can I suggest that anyone that is offered a free ticket for a game please post details of it on here, including the source of the tickets, with evidence if possible.

I would like to basically compile evidence of all the giveaways in case I want to raise it with the club in the future at a liaison group meeting.

Dont buy a season ticket instead of moaning on like a fairy
