Mavrias

So... Panathanikos are skint and want the money........ are we skint as well ? Why go for a loan on a player that we tried for on a permanent deal over a month ago ? Don't think our net spend exceeds what we have taken in on transfers.

It looks like we are back in for Mavrias and also Puruzzi............ and some unnamed English midfield ' general' widely tipped to be Tom Huddlestone. I was quite excited with the signings we made at the start of the transfer window, but now the dust has settled I am not so sure that we are any better off than we were at the end of last season. Remember we lost Mignolet and Rose...... our top 2 performers. Little bit concerned.

We got to sign this lad..or someone else. Pretty thin at the wing atm... as well as in the middle and on FB.. :-|

as the poster who appears to have startled you pointed out, we've lost Rose and Mignolet, our two best players and most consistent performers. We don't just need to be slightly better than last season we need to be significantly improved. A few people remain to be convinced, quite understandably IMO

Thanks

The additions of Cabral,Giaccherini,Altidore and Karlsson, a rejuvenated AJ and Sess, a fit Wes Brown and much improved fitness and attitude from the rest of the squad, together with the departure of some, but not yet all, dead wood, does point imo to significant improvement.Of course,we all have to be convinced....but only results on the pitch will do that. Rose was always going back to Spurs and the sale of Mig need not prove costly. I'd be much more worried if MON was still there and we'd added one or two expensive, experienced cast offs!

Yes, but ....

No room for common sense here...move along

We finished 4th off bottom last year where the players were completely unfit and there was rot in the camp.

A lot of the players looked rubbish for most of the season under MON.

Di Canio came in and performed a miracle to keep us up with them same players even with injuries and suspensions he saved us from the drop.

Now we have a lot of new players some young and good prospects and others quality, they are fitter and I think Di Canio has improved the squad.

So therefore by this logic we should be vastly improved from the 4th off bottom last season.

Problem is that most of the other teams around us have improved as well - Norwich, swansea, Soton, Villa. If we don't improve, we will be in the fight for the 18th spot. However, it looks as though we will be a considerably better side - and with a few more signings - this could be a year to enjoy. Problem is, there are so many ifs.

Nowt really

Agree, Swansea for me are the side that are going to do very well, think they will surprise a lot of people even more this season.

There are some many if's but if we get Mavrias (like that Steve30000) hopefully he should be an improvement on Mclean.

But again another if.

Personally think we will be top half this season.

West Brom, Hull and Palace for the drop, think West Brom will sink faster than a fat Bramble.

Well happy we are back in for this lad. Bit disappointing that the bid was knocked back but see that merely as the opening exchanges between us and Panathinaikos. I think we'll get some sort of deal done for him as we really do need cover on the left wing for Giaccherini. And with AJ and Karlsson for the right, that gives us much better quality and options than we had last year.

A good 0-3 win against the horse punchers but lost 6-1 to villa. However we did stay up...just.

I still would like a another good striker and a creative midfielder..and yes a couple of full-backs.
