also fined 2.5k for breaking the salary cap.

Also 1/4 point deduction from CB40 & T20

Suggests we didn't break the salary cap by much.

Source = Kevin Howells

Durham must be paying close to £400,000 on players they don't want. It's no wonder the salary cap has stopped them signing proven CC players the last couple of years.

Shambles.

something seriously wrong with whoever is negotiating contracts at Durham. someone has taken their eye off the ball. Tends to suggest that the administration of the club is seriously wanting.

tbf - it seems incredibly harsh given that we suddenly, perhaps unexpectedly, have to cope with collingwood's salary coming back onto our books, not to mention funding players whilst they go off to play for england [onions, borthwick, stokes] and then end up paying this penalty.

Heads need to roll for this at the club. Absolutely disgraceful this has happened.

I know they don't have central contracts but is there not any kind of reimbursement for players salaries while they are on England duty?

Either way it sounds like the administrators have been negligent or taking a gamble that's not paid off. Sooner we're rid of the likes of Plunkett and Harmison the better.

This is just what we need after the tough season we are nearly finished now.

Although it does sound like a bit of a mess, let's not get carried away. A 2.5 point deficit at the start of the season is hardly a big deal. With the squad we will have next season I expect us to win the league by over 25 points never mind 2.5.

Then end of the 2020 punting hopefully

But don't be overdramatic ;-)

Things like this shouldn't be happening.

2.5 points may not seem much but I can imagine the players are annoyed about it.

The contracts getting handed out by people at the club simply isn't working and maybe the club need to review this procedure. We should be aware of the rules, so no excuses for this happening.

Bit of a shambles really and again it's a reminder of how much Harmison is bleeding the club dry with his wages.

Overdramatic? Nah not at all, it could cost us this time next year.

1/4 point from the T20 & CB40 as well isn't great.

We wont have the wages of DiVenuto or Plunkett next year to pay. Possibly Harmy & Blackie may be gone too so that's a large chunk of the wage bill reduced. We might also be able to afford a couple of decent players to strengthen the squad.

Harmy's not going any where, it's his benefit next year and he's decided to have his cake and eat it, at Durham's expense.

Joining twitter apparently soon

His benefit match will be down in London so his chums Flintoff etc can spout what a great man he is.

Disgraceful the amount of money he's earning out of Durham

If we manage to complete the season in the LVCC without a game with a slow over rate we won't know the difference anyway.

Is it a 1/4 point in the limited overs or a 1/4 of our total points?

That's because it isn't. If (hopefully) we carry on with current form to next season we should win the title by a street

I've got a good feeling about next season, Collingwood won't take any shit and he's already showed signs of that this season under his captaincy.

Be nice to sign up a batsman like

I suppose the biggest threat to us is Onions call-up or injury

Yep, and Colly is clearly a breath of fresh air after the dithering Smith-bit of benks-mustard era

Tim Wellock explains a bit more in the link below, it appears Durham exceeded the salary cap by about £30,000.
