England in the Winter just gone will take some beating when it comes to collapses......

I think that is harsh. They gave Australia a good run for their money and in spells have caused England problems.

The political side of things dont help the Windies cause and they are also a youngish side.

They have shown that they have some players capable of playing very good cricket and have made a better fist of it than most expected.

Also, lets not forget that they are playing the Worlds No.1, with the best attack in world cricket, in their own back yard.

Exactly. You've just got to look at how well we've bowled all game long, were it not for a fantastic batting performance from Samuels and Sammy in the first innings (when we still bowled very well) the game would have long since been over.

The Windies have also bowled well though, I wouldn't put our mini collapse down to poor batting, we were well bowled out.

They have a nucleus of a good side there and if they can focus on what they're doing well, they'll start to see their results improving, also if the likes of Gayle start getting their priorities right, they could become a force again.

I don't think they'll be too disappointed with this (probable) series defeat after the way both they and us have played.

We got spanked only last Winter. Got to do it home and away to be a proper 1

There are no 'proper' number ones anymore as most sides seem to be 'homers'. India were number 1 but soon became unstuck on their travels. England had a miserable winter on spinning decks.....

cannot wait till the south africa test series.

i just wonder if trott will do a chopra

Should be a cracker.

Well, Chopra made the correct choice (in passing to a man with an open net) but wasn't good enough to execute the pass..... so I reckon not ;-)

That wicket will now see the tail polished off sharpish!

Worst test team i should have said, teams like ireland and that dont count ;-)

I still think youre wrong. They have a very useful seam attack. Gabriel, Roach and Rampaul are decent bowlers and in Bravo and Samuels they have a couple of useful batsmen. They are a team with some talent but just lack a cutting edge or killer instinct. They certainly arent a joke. Theyve been more resilient in this series than India were last summer.

When was the last time they won a test series? The first innings is the first time for ages theyve got a big total where chanderpaul hasnt dragged them to it

I've seen worse West Indies teams than this one tour England.

Anyway, another series win, that's our 7th in a row at home apparently (a record). I remember the dark days of the 1990s when we couldn't beat any bugger.

As I said they are lacking killer instinct. IIRC they posted big scores against Australia and India without Chanderpaul. They have a soft underbelly but if you have a look at their recent results and the close games theyr had I wouldnt class them as a joke. Theyre reasonably competitive

Off the field and behind the scenes, you may have a case though.

to call them a joke is very very unfair.

you can more or less cut the test nations in half and call the top 4 or 5, england, south africa, india, australia, sri lanka the elites whilst the windies, kiwis, bangladesh, pakistan are somewhat lesser but when you look at the comparative size of the nations it all makes sense.

that doesnt mean they arent all competitive and it wasnt that long ago we were struggling to take 10 wickets against them let alone 20.

Aye, they are rebuilding.

Error.

This.

I have been fairly impressed with their bowling this series, (in spells anyway) although they are still way short regarding a spin option.

The political and money side of things are their major stumbling blocks.

God bless central contracts,
