Smoking should be banned in the UK

Well to be fair, I don't think any smoker kids himself about the risks.

I do find it amusing how far some non-smokers will go to convince themselves that every smoker will die of lung cancer.

I think the majority of smokers kid themselves about the risks. Whilst of course not every smoker will get lung cancer, the unarguable fact is that, if you are a smoker, then it is very likely that your life will be cut short by a nasty illness, and that you will have a conversation with a doctor in the future when he says "I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do for you".

You're hardly going to get Cancer walking passed people smoking outside man. People with BO is a fuck load worse than smokers.

I didn't suggest that I would get cancer from second hand smoke. It is just extremely unpleasant to be anywhere near it.

I find it extremely unpleasant to be on a train near fat people, smelly people, ugly people, people with scouse accents etc... will you ban them?

Sorry, I hadn't mentioned this - I would not ban smoking in the UK.

People arguing that smoking should be banned in the UK seem to be thinking that banning it would stop people doing it.

People will still smoke, they'll just stop paying taxes on them and buy the cigs from "that bloke in the pub" rather than the local newsagents

Utilitarian fascistic nonsense.

Why not ban all cars or alcohol, it will result in a similar reduction in fatalities and income to the treasury.

Cars serve a purpose though don't they, if you banned cars tomorrow people couldn't get around and the hole country would be affected.

Tabs don't really serve any purpose, ban them tomorrow and the country would still run.

Drinking is different as well though isn't it. It's a social thing, the majority of people don't drink because they're addicted, they drink because they want to, and it doesn't affect others really. Most people smoke because they started and it's too much effort to stop.

aye, but it's like taking drugs isn't it, you won't really be able to do it in public.

I used to hate coming home after a night out, absolutely f***ing stinking of tabs, at least that doesn't happen now.

It gets to me when you walk through the town and almost everyone has a tab in their hand, you're walking behind them and you're breathing in their stinky smoke.

Ban this, ban that. People know the risks and make informed decisions themselves. I don't want to live in a society where I can't make decions on how I live my life, regardless of whether they are bad decisions that I make.

But surely it's the same as drugs though. Tabs are a drug, and they're probably more harmful than helpful.

Ban the fuckers.

Fair enough, as long as you're banning drink and fast food. Nah, let people do what they want including taking whatever drugs you want. If, however, you become drug or alcohol dependent to the extent that you cannot hold a job down and turn to crime, you go to prison for a period long enough to be rehabilitated. The additional tax on the now legal drugs to pay for improved and additional prisons to facilitate this.

Its unhealthy, its a waste of money, its unsociable, its not fashionable and servers no real purpose regardless of what smokers say about I need one cause Im stressed out.

Ban it now anywhere in the UK and save millions of lives and use the money saved to help the older folks who we should be looking after

Agreed.

If they ban smoking, alcohol will be next. It'll serve the anti-smoking drinkers right.

Spiteful cunts.

If you don't like smoking, then don't f***ing smoke, how simple can it be? It's already illegal to smoke in indoor public places, but oh no, such a compromise isn't good enough for the small minded, bitter, selfish bastards.

Where does this bollocks come from about saving money? Smokers contribute a fortune to this country. If smoking is banned, motorists and drinkers will be absolutely hammered. Are people really too stupid to see this?

Divide and rule. wake up.

Tidied.

Why are so many smokers desperate to quit if it's so f***ing great

Health reasons. I enjoy a smoke when I'm having a drink. So do countless others. There are practically no arguments against smoking that can't be aimed at drinking.

Passive smoking I'll give you, but I've never been punched in the mouth by a lad who's had one too many Regals either.

Here we go again, booze isn't the same... 'cos I like it.

f***ing hypocrites.

Yep!

The anti smoking 'health' angle argument from drinkers is laughable. Binge drinking is endemic these days, but it'll take a while for the real health effects to become apparent as the current generation ages and their livers fail, become cirrhotic or cancerous. It also contributes to obesity, while smoking is an appetite suppressant.

Then there's the argument that drinkers don't inflict themselves on others. I'm not going to even bother to explain why this is ludicrous. I'd far rather get a waft of tobacco smoke than a battering. Ask A&E staff how many smoking related incidents there are on Friday/Saturday nights. Ask the police how many smoking related acts of vandalism they have to deal with.

As you say, hypocrites.

If smokers want to smoke, their choice, their lives. No-one elses business.
