i hate to the point of having to put down a plate of chips the word "day boo"

debut. even paul allot who is english is saying it now :evil::evil:

they have started saying "out for a blob" instead of out for a duck, I bet they wouldn't use that saying when they commentate on a womens match. It sounds terrible

Would sound worse if they added "she was only at the crease for a very short period".

Hate the expression "a swing and a miss".

michael vaughan says 'he is even turning it off the posh'..... luckily it has failed to catch on.

dont mind it when its an aussie commentator cos that is the way they have always said it.....

Out of curiosity where does 'long hop' and 'cow corner' come from?

Cow corner
the area of the field (roughly) between deep mid-wicket and wide long-on. So called because few 'legitimate' shots are aimed to this part of the field, so fielders are rarely placed there – leading to the concept that cows could happily graze in that area

LEADING TO
Cow shot
a hard shot, usually in the air, across the line of a full-pitched ball, aiming to hit the ball over the boundary at cow corner, with very little regard to proper technique. Very powerful and a good way of hitting boundary sixes, but must be timed perfectly to avoid being bowled, or either skying the ball or getting a leading edge and so being caught. A type of slog.

Long hop
a delivery that is much too short to be a good length delivery, but without the sharp lift of a bouncer. Usually considered a bad delivery to bowl as the batsman has a lot of time to see the ball and play an attacking shot.

Isn't wiki wonderful?

Always used to hate the expression used by Ray Illingworth when he commentated on BBC tests - "the game is nicely poised", which usually meant that the Windies were about 804-1 against us!!

Have never heard that one - must have said it while I popped out to Boots.....

Cheers - but why long hop?

His worst has to be when he shouts ''hello!'' whenever a six is hit. Hello what you bloody knacker?! Can't stand the man.

"crickey o'reilly!"

Is he popular in Australia BTW or do they resent having an irritating POM leading their coverage?

Bit of an unfair swap, we get 40 years of Benaud and give them Nicholas.

Mark Nicholas is well liked in aus may go there full time so you may just have to put up with him on aus sky coverage. he is a good presenter not a very good commentator though but he is by far the most successful presenter away from cricket.

i think it is mostly anything that comes out of the mouths of the aussie commentators

also i dont like the way the state that australia is "a thing"

eg australia leads by

instead of the correct english way of australia lead by

petty i know but late at night, i get a bit narky
