He was a fantastic bowler, although he has been much less effective in recent years.

He has obviously been helped by playing a lot of his test matches in favourable conditions but fair play; very few will ever reach that milestone.

I am not sure I would describe India as favourable conditions in that heat and humidity

Dry and dusty pitch conditions would suggest otherwise.

And you'd think growing up and playing in the Indian heat for 30 years would have him prepared for those sort of conditions; much more so than the English or New Zelanders for example.

if they were that dry and dusty tests wouldnt last 3 days because they would crack, dont believe all the hype you read in the media

Hmmm...I'm not so sure about that. It's definitely one of the best place in the world to bowl spin that's for sure.

An average of 28 at home and 38 away from home is testament to that.

Dont disagree just dont believe the media hype about Indian wickets

They turn dusty and cracked days 4 and 5

I agree it is overplayed. Mohali for example has been a great place to bowl for seamers at times. Nontheless conditions are generally favourable for him as conditions in England are often suitable for bolwers such as someone like James anderson perhaps.

They are both class acts though.

nee offence but comparing Jimmy to Harbajan is a woeful comparison

One of the very few splinters of an argument you come up with against Jimmy is that he performs better when conditions suit. Harby averages close to 40 away from home but you are happy to praise him to the hilt.

Yoiu are right to praise Harby it just makes another nonsense of your criticisms of JA and makes you look a bit hypocritical ;)

What does Jimmy average away from home out of interest

can you produce the stats plz

Harbajan home: 28.43 away: 37.92 Overall: 400 @ 31.80
Jimmy home: 27.22 away: 38.22 Overall: 219 @ 31.04

Both very good bowlers and better at home than away shock, horror.

Edit - and Jimmy's average is considerably better in India than Harbajan's in England.

Spinners go for more runs than seamers which I dont think many would argue with so Jimmy should have a much better average and the fact he doesnt highlights what a poor comparison it was to make
