Aye but they fail to mention them on the page I linked to which seems to be reserved for remembering their major trophies of the past.

Mentioned as a side note at the end. Frankly couldn't care less what Barca think of the trophy anyway. UEFA don't recognise it. That is basically all that matters here, right?

Considering it wasn't a UEFA competition I don't see why that matters at all quite frankly.

The Fairs Cup wasn't officially organised by UEFA hence it is not officially recognised by UEFA. It's really quite simple.
 
just out of interest Jake, could you advise to when nufc last won a trophy in england, ie the top division, the fa cup or the league cup?

just so we know how a big club is recognised

'Seems to be' isn't actually Barcelona declaring it as a major trophy.

Anyway, I've answered all of your questions and will answer any others so, why did 3 teams not bother to turn up, for their games, in the season Newcastle won it?

for what its worth no the fairs cup wasnt/isnt a major honour, but we got in and won it an incredible achievement whatever spin you put on it about teams not turning up....etc

we had to beat feyenoord, vittoria setabul, rangers, sporting lisbon, real zaragoza & upjest dosza to win it

The Intertoto Cup is a preliminary tournament.

There's no reason why an official governing body can't recognise a tournament that ran before it made it official. There must be a reason why UEFA don't recognise the Fairs Cup?

Considering I've taken the original thread off the rails and have now got numerous people into discussing the ins and outs of the Fairs Cup I'd say not. Like I've said before we now how multiple outstanding cases of dirty green mackems.
Strange that I'm getting lectured on what constitutes a major European Trophy from mackems who are a) the only people who are quick to take exception to the Fairs Cup being labelled one (but they're not bitter or owt though :lol:) and b) aren't exactly experienced in the field of European football. Maybe we need to get someone with experience in, someone like Shola Ameobi who can claim over twice as many European goals as SAFC. :cool:
