Just been watching Edgbaston 2005 Test whilst in bed with the cold:lol:

but I wanted to know is it the best match you have ever seen??? I can't think of a better match in my memory (but having said that I was only born in '85)

Yes, the best best match, in the best series, in the best sporting event ever.

The country was suffering from mass hysteria for all of that summer (or after the first test anyway)

Probably wont see the like again, as I said to the boy at the time, who was riveted

This.

I remember watching that match in Tenerife with loads of people who did not watch cricket, however they were absolutely mesmerised with that test series.

I was at day 3 of that test. I can honestly say I've never witnessed anything as incredible as the action that day, in 1 day we had every emotion possible at a test match, from the worry of the constant tumble of English wickets in the morning, to Flintoff whacking them all over the place, to the celebrations when we were taking Aussie wickets for fun. The way everyone celebrated was like scoring against the mags.

You lucky, lucky man...

What I would have given to have been there

I'm yet to attend a better sporting occasion than that day. Funny story about that day, I was going to go with a mate from Cheltenham, he decided he would rather watch the opening day of the League 2 football season. In trying to sell his ticket outside the ground, a tout offered to buy the pair of tickets off me for 100 quid plus a single ticket he had in with the Barmy Army. It was the perfect place to watch it, with beer tokens thrown in. My mate was sick as pigshit afterwards.

I managed to get to 3 other days that summer, days 1 and 5 at Old Trafford, and day 5 at the Oval. The best summer of sport ever, I don't think anything will ever beat that.

You swine!!

was at the last day of the Edgbaston test when Warne, Lee and Kasprowicz looked like they were taking it away from us. I was slating Harmison and Flintoff and ridiculously pent up with anger. I was calling them bottlers, spineless, cowards the full shebang. Then Jones took that catch down leg side and it was without doubt the best feeling at a sporting occasion Ive ever had. More than any Sunderland match which is quite surprising. The place just went ballistic. Seeing Flintoff consoling Lee, Vaughans arms flailing about and Harmison and Jones running about was fantastic but I think one of the best moments was when Athers asked Ponting about his decision to bowl first and the chants at Ponting. Superb day

I was thinking what would the Cricket board have been like on that day.. would have been a meltdown akin to the 5-1 :lol:

wey aye!!! i jumped on the band waggon after this game and never got back off it

Harmison to get Clarke is the greatest delivery i've seen in test cricket (i've arnly watched it for 6 years! before you get your knickers in a twist)

then there was that over by flintoff!

me too, day 4 of the 'Greatest test', best feeling ever at a sporting event, plus was sitting next to the fanatics, cracking banter all through the day, noise was unreal like 'angus' has just said when kasper' went just absolute pure relief.
on top of that got let in early since travelled all the way down from Sunderland for what the stewards said would be 2 balls of play only.
Always remember, with about 70 odd to win, Harmy bowling a no ball, and this Aussie just standing up and belting 'thats it Brett, play for the no-balls', and just laughing thinking they had no chance of winning...

the edgbaston test will take some beating like.....

bringing back fantastic memories of that summer. loads of time off with the tv out the back garden, beers on the go etc. her folks were watching it (they hadnt even heard of cricket til that summer ). and it seemed like everyone you talked to was glued to it.

the country was bouncing!

not that english folk will like this, but as a test match the 2nd test of the 5-0 hammering was also excellent. two massive innings each, then warnes magic on the last day to skittle us when a draw looked nailed on. and then finally hussey knocking off the runs with only a few overs to spare, after the aussies were stuttering early on.

I did not see the tests in Aus in 2002 was it as emphatic as the results suggested I only ask this because Colly scored 200 and lost :lol:

Fuck off man

I fell in love with cricket that day. Absolutely unbelievable. Don't get me wrong, the 2009 win was superb, and the Ashes 2010-11 was even better, even tho I was sat in my back room freezing my bollocks off til 5 in the morning  Cant beat the 2005 win, 20-odd years since we had won it, unreal

The 2002/03 series had one cracker when we bowled them out with three bowlers (Caddick, Harmison & Dawson?).

Best Aussie away test though was Melbourne '98/99. Iirc in a four hour final session Dean Headley got five wickets and Gough celebrated the final wicket by waving the stump above his head while the supporters ran on. Mint :)

it was the 2006/7 series marra.
it was an epic game, with flintoff declaring with england in control.
the aussies then whacked a huge total and had us 1 down in 2nd innings at the close of day 4 iirc. then warnes magic came to the party on the last day. id say it was a fantastic test match despite the fact we lost.
