Connor Wickham, as expected has departed Wearside after signing a five year deal with Crystal Palace.
During his time at Sunderland, Wickham scored 15 goals in 91 apperances in all competitions.
Most fans will be thinking what if? His potential and value when he first joined in 2011 was sky high. His spell at Sunderland was very mixed. He spent most of his time either out on loan, or on the sidelines. Until Gus Poyet threw Wickham a chance which he took with both hands, I doubt he would have lasted much longer as a Sunderland player.
Unfortunately, we only got a slight glimpse of what Wickham could do. The slight glimpse was during the four games when he scored five and assisted our winner at Old Trafford.
After four years, Wickham finally departs with a thank you for his part in the great escape of 2014. But he leaves with regret, on what could have been
