The club has completed the signing of Swedish international Ola Toivonen. The attacking midfielder joins Sunderland on a season-long loan from French Ligue 1 side Rennes.
Speaking about the player, head coach Dick Advocaat said: “I worked with Ola at PSV so I know him well. He is a national team player with a lot of experience, an attacking midfielder who can score goals and is good in the air – he will bring something different to the team.”
The 6’2” midfielder, who has won over 40 caps for Sweden began his career in his hometown with Degerfos IF, before spells in Gothenburg and Malmo. A move to Dutch giants PSV followed, where he won the KNVB Cup and the Dutch Super Cup.
Toivonen could make his debut this weekend as the Black Cats travel to the Midlands to take on Aston Villa in the Barclays Premier League.
