Following our final friendly win at Hannover on Saturday, Dick Advocaat was happy with the victory but admits that improvement is needed.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo after the game, Advocaat reserved praise for his players.
“This was tough again today, it was nice for us sitting on the bench, but on the pitch it was really hot.” Advocaat said. “But they did it well. I thought it was a fair result and any time you come to Germany and get a win, it’s a good thing.”
However, Advocaat is looking for improvement from his players in the run up to the start of the season.
“We can see some things during the game that we have to improve, but we have a week to improve that.”
The Hannover victory rounds off a very indifferent pre-season programme for Sunderland, who won three and lost three of their six games. However, Saturday’s victory was their best overall performance and again Jeremain Lens was the standout performer. Another new recruit, Younes Kaboul, also received praise for his accomplished performance at the heart of the defence.
Pre-season 2015 has drawn to a close and after five weeks, it still leaves more questions than answers on what will happen between August and May.
