Lee Cattermole has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal at the Stadium of Light.
The former England under-21 international joined us in 2009 from Wigan FC, on an initial four-year deal, before signing an extension to his contract in October 2012 to keep on Wearside until 2016.
The 27-year old has now signed a new five-year deal, committing his future to the club until 2021.
Speaking about the midfielder’s new deal, head coach Dick Advocaat said: “Lee is the controller of the side. He is a motivator, a leader and central to the success of our team. To know that he will be with us for many years to come is very important to the club.”
Sunderland AFC’s sporting director Lee Congerton added: “Lee is a hugely important part of our team, both on and off the field. He has ten years of experience playing in the Premier League, which is incredible when you consider he is still only 27 years old, and we are delighted that he has committed his long-term future to Sunderland.”
