Being a keen Sunderland supporter and too frequent poster on Ready To Go I became aware of the story of a little boy called Bradley Lowery.
Living in the Sunderland heartland of Blackhall Co Durham Bradley Lowery was like any other little 2 year old until he was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk Neuroblastoma on the 7th of January this year. Through a fellow poster Speedyftm we on RTG have been kept up to date with Bradleys fight where we can only imagine the worry and heartache that his parents and family are going through. So the news that over the last few weeks that Bradleys condition has deteriorated has been slightly choking especially for those of us with kids of our own and the photos of the facebook page of him in intensive care has been heartbreaking.
What seems to have been a source of help to the family is the scores of people who have joined in the effort of supporting Bradley Lowery’s Fight with thousands posting on his facebook page and helping his trust to raise £500,000 needed to fund the treatment. So far about £45,000 has been raised.
Fundraising events have taken place with wristbands, raffles (I won a giant inflatable football) and a recently released single Bradleys lullaby (7” for those of us of an age) currently sits at number 26 in the UK charts and can be purchased here.
Many fellow Sunderland supporters have joined in the campaign with former Sunderland manager Peter Reid also throwing his support behind the bid to raise funds that will send Bradley for life-saving treatment in America.
Reid, 56, sat alongside Sky Sports’ Bill Bradshaw at the event at Easington Social Welfare Centre on Thursday, October 24, where the former England midfielder recently helped another charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young.
Peter was interviewed by top sports journalist Bill Bradshaw for the first part of the show, which guaranteed to entertain. Then the fans got their chance to ask the questions in the second half.
As of today 22/11/13 the following was placed on Bradleys Facebook page.
Brad is having a lot better day, he has coped really well with the physio on his chest and all of his blood gasses have been good. All excellent signs once again. Doctors have warned us that he will be up and down for a while yet but all I am bothered about is that he is making small positive steps in the right direction.
I didn’t know Bradley until I read about him and I certainly didn’t know what Neuroblastoma was but I certainly do now. As we move towards Christmas like many on here I will be sparing a thought for a little boy who battles literally for his life and hoping that there is a happy outcome and hope they get the support they need.
Right where’s that link to Bradleys lullaby.
