Steve Bruce Second Favourite In The Sack Race

October 5, 2011 by rtg

There is no denying it has been a slow start to the season for Sunderland, we sit in sixteenth place and have won just once in all competitions. This has resulted in a huge plunge on Steve Bruce to lose his job at the Stadium Of Light, although he is not likely to be the next manager out.

Steve Bruce is currently available at 4/1 to be the first Premiership manager to leave his club, be it forced out or to leave voluntarily, and that makes him the second favourite in the sack race currently. He could be given plenty of time though by the new Chairman and the fact that he has only actually lost three competitive games this season despite having half a new team to integrate into the club means he could be given leeway and he doesn’t appeal as a strong bet.

The most likely manager by far to lose his job must be Blackburn boss Steve Kean. His side sit second bottom of the league at the moment and fans are already campaigning to have him removed from his job. Kean apparently came close to losing his job late last season and has taken Blackburn from being a tough to beat mid table team to being likely relegation fodder and the 8/11 on Kean being the next manager out makes plenty of appeal.

Manager of bottom side Bolton, Owen Coyle, is the third favourite in the sack race odds. He is 8/1 with the bookies but in general he has been good for Bolton and it is worth noting that out of their seven matches this season they have already faced Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal. Another manager who looks too short in the sack race odds is David Moyes, Everton would be eighth if they win their game in hand and they’ve had some tough fixtures already, 14/1 is way too short on Moyes leaving Everton. Overpriced choices could include Arsene Wenger who is 20/1, he seems more frustrated than ever and could become fed up if Arsenal lose a few more games in the next couple of months.
