Charity Coast to Coast Ride 2009

January 6, 2009 by rtg

It has been a full year now since RTG Message Board User and Blogger “Hazey” (Graeme Kerton) sadly passed away.

Many visitors to the site were touched by his story and last year 18 members of the message boards + 4 “hangers on” did the 140 mile C2C cycle ride from Whitehaven to Sunderland in his memory and in doing so raised £12,000 which was donated to the Macmillan and P.S.C. Charities. They also had a weekend never to be forgot.

John aka ‘Parkmaverick’ is planning to organise the ride again this year and in the process, raise even more money for charities.

If you are interested in taking part, read on:

Route

The plan is to cover the same route leaving Whitehaven after dipping your back tyre in the Irish Sea and then over the next 3 day period (12th -14th June) cycle to Sunderland finishing down near the Marina dipping your front tyre in the North Sea mid/late afternoon on the Sunday. Overnight stops will be at Greystoke and Nenthead again with the cost being similar to the £55 of last year’s event.

Charities

We are not being prescriptive with who does what for which Charity just that you try for a figure of £200 for your chosen charity, and the occasional doff of the cap in the direction of a certain blogger.

The three main Charities are listed below and their Champion

Help for Heroes. – Market Where?

Donna Clare/Local Charity – TAFKARLC

Children with Leukaemia – Parkmaverick

If you would like to do the event for any of these three please let us know

Further Details

Use the message boards to send a private messgae (PM) to Parkmaverick with a contact e-mail address he will let you have further details.

Incidentally, you can still buy copies of Hazey’s Book – My Dark Friend at hazeysbook.co.uk/ It is a collection of his blogs from readytogo.net/blogs/hazey and an inspiring read (although some might be offended by the language!)
