As was mentioned a couple of articles previous to this, we have achieved so much this season yet conversely we have achieved so little so far as well and that was rammed home this weekend previous with results going against us at Pride Park, Layer Road and Molineux. As they say you are only as good as your last result and we were beaten by Colchester and Burnley have beaten West Brom so we need to get back to winning ways for two games to achieve promotion – simple as that.
Roy Keane has had a tremendous first season in football management and throughout that period he has re-iterated time and again that we have to win our own games first and foremost and the table will take care of itself. Well by winning those games the table has indeed taken care of itself and as a result the bar has now been well and truly raised for these final two games of the season now.
At this stage of the season we are effectively taking part in our own three way “play offs” for promotion and quite simply the first hurdle is one that we cannot afford to fall at and this Friday night the roof should be raised in the stadium with the sort of atmosphere to help the players get closer to the all important winning post and to put pressure on the Burnley players, especially the likes of Steve Caldwell and Andy Gray who will be trying to prove a point.
It might sound like an obvious thing to be pointing out, and I would agree it is, but quite simply an intimidating atmosphere and a wall of noise up against the Burnley players could make all the difference. This article is not trying to be thought provoking or anything other than a “call to arms”. The players have been and will be doing their part and now is the time for the supporters to try and give that extra bit of help and become the much talked of “12th man”. If you haven’t already got yourself a ticket then get one by hook or by crook and get yourself there to shout the lads home.
Show the players how much we want this and how much they deserve it as well.
Forget the other teams and remember one very important fact – two games remain and two wins means promotion.
That’s what we want – so shout for it.
Bring it on.
