Rowell appeals to Stadium litterbugs

January 16, 2007 by rtg

Sunderland legend turned pundit Gary Rowell has appealed for supporters attending matches at the Stadium of Light not to drop their litter.

Last weekend’s home game against Ipswich was affected not only by the swirling wind, but by litter picked up on the gusts and blowing around on the pitch.

Gary said in his Sunderland Echo column, “It was a disgrace to see thousands of bits of rubbish blowing around the pitch.”

He said he’d watched many of the weekend’s other games on TV last weekend and didn’t see the problem anywhere else.

“We’ve got one of the best stadiums in the country and the least we can do is show it some respect.

“Please, put your litter in the bins provided or if you can’t find a bin, just put it in your pocket!”
