Crystal Palace: Away Supporters’ Guide

December 16, 2006 by rtg

RTG’s totally and utterly (we hope) indispensable guide to this season’s away grounds.

THE OPPO Crystal Palace FC

DATE Friday 22 December

KO TIME – 8.00pm (moved for Sky Sports transmission)

THE GROUND – Selhurst Park, London, SE25 6PU – click here and here for maps of the area – the red circle shows where the ground is.

Selhurst Park is in south London, about ten miles south of central London and about 2 – 3 miles north west of Croydon.

AWAY SUPPORTERS

Away supporters are accommodated in the Arthur Wait Stand – beware, there are some supporting pillars that might block some peoples’ views.

GOING BY CAR?

It’s the usual A1 south > M1 south malarkey, but stay on the M1 right until it runs out. Take the M1/A1 to North Circular A406 to Chiswick, take the south circular A205 to Wandsworth, then take A3 to A214, follow signs for Streatham to the A23, after one mile take a left onto the B273, at the end turn left into High Street and into Whitehorse Lane. It’s mainly street parking but please park considerately for residents and look out for stuff like ‘residents only’ restrictions.

GOING BY TRAIN?

Plenty of trains heading to the smoke from Newcastle:

Dep 1328 Arr 1646

Dep 1357 Arr 1659

Dep 1405 Arr 1728

Dep 1434 Arr 1741

Dep 1455 Arr 1804

From King’s Cross, take the Tube to Victoria Station then get a train to Selhurst.

Going back to the north east? Not the same night you’re not. The last train out of Kings Cross heading north leaves at 10pm. The following day though, trains back to the north east leave Kings Cross regularly.

For full timing details, fares and to book, go to National Rail’s website.

STOPPING OVER?

Astra Palace Hotel, Sydenham Hill tel 020 8778 9844

Travel Inn Croydon (4 miles) tel 08701 977 069

Travelodge London Docklands (6 miles) tel 0870 191 1691

SCRAN AND BOOZE

The Wetherspoons opposite Thornton Heath station will serve home AND away supporters, as does the Railway Telegraph. Closer to Selhurst Station there’s the Two Brewers pub on Gloucester Road and the Clifton Arms on Clifton Road.

LEND US A FIVER I’M OUT OF CASH

There’s one at the White Horse, 1 Selhurst Road – just a few minutes’ walk down the road from Selhurst railway station, next to the Selhurst Arms and another at the Tesco on Whitehorse Road.
