Sunderland AFC’s new away kit is to go on sale on the evening of Thursday 11th August 2005 at 8pm at the Stadium of Light. Supporters who purchase their shirt from official SAFC outlets, will not only be helping the club financially and therefore Mick McCarthy, but will also receive a double-sided home and away mini-kit (worth £7.99) free of charge.
The Stadium of Light store will be officially opened by manager Mick McCarthy at 8pm, giving Black Cats fans the opportunity to be the first to sport the new change strip ahead of Sunderland’s first Premiership game at the weekend.
A Metro Radio Road show with Simon Crabtree and Goffy will be on hand from 6pm until 9pm to entertain those present, and fans young and old, will also be able to show off their skills on an inflatable human table football pitch and a penalty shoot-out competition. There will also be a bouncy castle and face painters for younger fans on the evening.
The new 2005/6 Lonsdale away kit was chosen by Sunderland fans in an on-line poll on the club’s official website, safc.com. The shirt is predominantly black and features red and silver panels on the sleeves with a red strip down both sides. It also bears the traditional embroidered club crest and sponsors logos. The shorts are black with silver side flashes and red piping, with change-shorts in silver with a black side flash and red piping. The socks are also black with red and silver flashes down one side.
Marketing and Communications director Lesley Callaghan said: “We would urge our supporters to purchase their new shirts direct from official SAFC outlets at the Stadium of Light or Sainsbury’s (formerly Savacentre) at The Galleries in Washington as all the profits from these sales will ultimately benefit the club directly and be used by Mick McCarthy to continue to strengthen the squad for the season ahead.
“Only supporters that purchase their shirt from official club outlets will also receive a free home and away doubled sided mini kit worth £7.99.”
Pre-orders for guaranteed delivery on Friday 12th August are still being taken and supporters can reserve their shirt by logging onto the online store on safc.com, calling the mail order hotline on 0191 551 5030 or in person at SAFC retail outlets.
