Metro FM announced today that alongside sister station Magic 1152, it has successfully regained the right to broadcast SAFC match commentaries – but only on Magic 1152.
The club announced during pre-season that BBC Radio Newcastle had won the contract to provide full match commentaries and that Metro and Magic would only provide periodical updates during matches.
But it seems that the weight of supporter opinion has won the day, and the status quo has been restored.
A statement from Metro and Magic Group today said, “Following an overwhelming response from many Sunderland fans the station has responded to fans’ requests and is pleased to announce it will broadcast every minute of every game live on Magic 1152.”
Metro’s Simon Crabtree said, “You contacted us in your hundreds so a very big thank you to everyone who emailed, wrote letters, phoned.”
Magic broadcasts on both AM and mediumwave and also DAB.
